The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pike tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Townsend paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Pike fails with the takedown

and Townsend counters with a nice double leg into side control. Pike won't be happy with that.
Pike wants to control but Townsend postures up.
Townsend slips into full mount, dodging the strikes by Pike.
Pike tries to lock up and control but Townsend gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Townsend lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Townsend throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Townsend lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Pike hang on?
Townsend has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Pike can't escape the position.
Townsend controlling from mount.
Pike really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Townsend. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Pike wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.

Townsend has good solid back control here.

Pike has hold of Townsend's leg, trying to break free but it's let Townsend lock up a rear naked choke! This could be big trouble! Pike is turning an unusual color here… he's out! Townsend throws him to one side and jumps onto the cage to celebrate with his fans.
