PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ruben Von Daal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexander Engelbreckt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Engelbreckt is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: If I had a heart. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Alexander Engelbreckt was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ruben Von Daal!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Alexander Engelbreckt!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Saam Ante and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Von Daal has his takedown stuffed

and Engelbreckt counters by moving into the clinch.

Engelbreckt gets control of Von Daal's arms and successfully pulls guard. Engelbreckt will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Engelbreckt is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Von Daal wants to control from the top but Engelbreckt keeps moving.
Engelbreckt is looking to stand up but Von Daal isn't so interested in that idea.

Engelbreckt looking to hit a scissor sweep but Von Daal is one step ahead there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Von Daal wants to control from the top but Engelbreckt keeps moving.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Ruben Von Daal.

Engelbreckt shoots in and gets a takedown into Von Daal's guard.

Von Daal is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Engelbreckt really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Von Daal. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Alexander Engelbreckt was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Von Daal gets tackled into the cage by Engelbreckt. Engelbreckt maintains the clinch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Engelbreckt is pushing Von Daal up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Engelbreckt has Von Daal pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Engelbreckt pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Von Daal tumbling to the mat - Engelbreckt dives into Von Daal's guard.

Von Daal looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Von Daal has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Engelbreckt can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Engelbreckt must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Engelbreckt works over Von Daal with some ground and pound from guard.

Von Daal has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Engelbreckt can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Von Daal has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Engelbreckt has passed into side control.
Engelbreckt is looking to take a break and control but Von Daal is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Engelbreckt is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Von Daal is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Von Daal is looking to regain half guard here but Engelbreckt keeps moving and retains side control.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

and Engelbreckt decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Von Daal's guard.
Von Daal looking for a sweep. Not yet Von Daal, not yet.
Von Daal trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Von Daal bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Engelbreckt's guard.
Engelbreckt controls Von Daal momentarily but Von Daal frees himself.
Von Daal is looking to work some ground and pound but Engelbreckt has wrist control.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Engelbreckt doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Von Daal is looking to stand up but Engelbreckt won't let him.

Von Daal tries to free his leg and advance position but Engelbreckt is retaining full guard.
Engelbreckt wants to stand and escape but Von Daal is having none of it.

Von Daal stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Engelbreckt swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Engelbreckt.

Engelbreckt thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Von Daal is looking to reverse the position.

Von Daal is trying to control Engelbreckt's posture but Engelbreckt avoids it.

Engelbreckt wants to control but Von Daal is keeping him busy.

Engelbreckt decides to stand up, so the ref orders Von Daal to his feet.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Engelbreckt looks up at the clock and then as Von Daal takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Engelbreckt smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Engelbreckt working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.

Engelbreckt moves into full mount! Von Daal won't be happy about that!
Engelbreckt wants to control the pace but Von Daal is squirming around nicely.
Von Daal is wriggling around trying to escape.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Engelbreckt lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Engelbreckt get's back to his feet.

Engelbreckt throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Von Daal was covering up waiting for the punch and Engelbreckt finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Engelbreckt works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Von Daal is pressing down on Engelbreckt's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Engelbreckt looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Engelbreckt is looking to stand up but Von Daal won't let him.

Alexander Engelbreckt showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Von Daal tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Engelbreckt swivels and escapes.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Engelbreckt changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Von Daal looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Engelbreckt is looking to advance position but Von Daal won't allow it.

Engelbreckt seems to be working for a kimura but Von Daal defends the submission attempt.
Von Daal is trying to get back to full guard.
Von Daal tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Engelbreckt has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Engelbreckt postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Von Daal looks a forlorn figure.

Engelbreckt is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Von Daal doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Engelbreckt.

Engelbreckt is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Well, if Engelbreckt is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Alexander Engelbreckt comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Engelbreckt has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
