PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jan Nowak (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Drederick Tatum (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Drederick Tatum told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jan Nowak!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 27 - 20 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Drederick Tatum!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Andrew Berry and Phil Schofield.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tatum throws a big shot that misses.
Nowak dives in and grabs Tatum's left leg, looking for a takedown. Tatum pushes down on Nowak's head and hops out.
Tatum misses with a straight right.
Tatum lands with a good body shot.
Tatum throws an off balance right hand
and Nowak cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.


It looks like Drederick Tatum has been cut.
Tatum's coach down at Sensei Sens's & co. Gym was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Tatum's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Nice defenses there by Nowak.
Tatum scores with a body shot.
Tatum stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Tatum takes a jab right on the kisser.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Tatum misses with a straight right.
Tatum cracks Nowak with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.


It looks like Jan Nowak has been cut.
Tatum needs to keep his hands up - Nowak had a free shot at his head there.
Nowak tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Tatum was well out of range. Poor timing from Nowak.
Nowak just misses with a punch to the body.
Tatum thuds his right hand into Nowak's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Nowak has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Tatum finds it's way round the side to connect with Nowak's head.
Tatum jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Tatum throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Nowak stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Tatum, right into the meat.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Nowak.
Tatum will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Tatum thuds a left hand into Nowak's body.
Nowak walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
A swing and a miss from Nowak.
We've been told by Nowak's head coaches at Wax on Wax off 'Dojo that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Tatum scores with a head kick.
Tatum throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Nowak throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Nowak misses with a jab, cross combination.
Tatum loads up on a big right hand but Nowak slips the punch.
Nowak lands the left hand.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Tatum scores with a head kick. Nowak tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
Tatum misses with a straight right.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Tatum has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Tatum there as he acknowledges the shot.
Tatum misses with a looping right.
Nowak throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Tatum sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Nowak changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Tatum tries to avoid it but Nowak manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Tatum to the ground. Tatum escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jan Nowak. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Tatum tests Nowak's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Tatum lands with a nice body punch.
Tatum swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Nowak.
Tatum takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Nowak fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Tatum avoids the body shot from Nowak.
Tatum connects with a right that clearly hurt Nowak. He's backed up against the cage with nowhere to go as Tatum proceeds to tee off with vicious combinations till Nowak collapses and taps out under the pressure!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:49 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Drederick Tatum!
