PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jose Menderia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pierre Laprise (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Jose Menderia has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jose Menderia!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Pierre Laprise!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Steve Smith and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Laprise shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Menderia but Menderia pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Laprise shoots for a double leg takedown but Menderia sprawls well. He's pushed Laprise's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Laprise looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Laprise is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Laprise decides to return to a standing position.

Laprise shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Menderia manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Laprise drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Menderia manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Laprise has Menderia in his guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Laprise has his foot on Menderia's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Menderia works his way back into a safe position though.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Menderia leaves Laprise with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Menderia shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Laprise pinned against the cage. Laprise gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Laprise changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Menderia looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Laprise keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Menderia's head.

Laprise postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Menderia is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Laprise, into his guard.

Laprise escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Menderia gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Laprise is breathing heavily.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

A close second round but Pierre Laprise will probably get the nod - 10:9.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Laprise really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Menderia. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
