PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Donovan Knox (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Darius Shahrough (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Donovan Knox!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Darius Shahrough!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Paulsen Ambrosius and Radbod Blank.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Knox avoids the head kick by Shahrough.
A low kick from Knox misses

and Shahrough counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Shahrough throwing strikes but missing.

Knox looking for a guillotine here but Shahrough defends easily.
Shahrough lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Shahrough with a flurry of punches that miss.
Knox really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Shahrough slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Knox preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Knox looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Shahrough trying to control the position from guard on top but Knox is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Shahrough prevents Knox from getting back to his feet.

Shahrough stands and steps away. Knox gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Knox shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Shahrough defends it nicely.

Knox gets a clinch.
Shahrough is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Knox pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Knox prevents a takedown attempt there.
Knox tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Shahrough smiles and moves away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Shahrough fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Knox to the ground. Shahrough is now in Knox's guard.
Shahrough throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Knox wants to sweep here but Shahrough controlling him for the moment.

Knox working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Shahrough doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Shahrough manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Shahrough really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Knox. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Shahrough throws a big elbow that misses.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Shahrough wants to control from the top but Knox keeps moving.

Shahrough drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Knox dives on top into guard.
Knox tries to stand but Shahrough is controlling from the bottom.

Shahrough escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Knox gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Shahrough not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Shahrough can do anything to dispel that myth.
Knox works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Knox will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Knox works his way into full mount!
Knox working the ground and pound effectively.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Knox can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Shahrough is looking to escape.

Knox goes for an armbar but Shahrough turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Shahrough.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Darius Shahrough dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Shahrough with a poor takedown

and Knox counters with a single leg into guard. Shahrough didn't expect that.
Knox is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Knox wants to control from the top but Shahrough keeps moving.
Knox controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Shahrough lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Knox!
Knox is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Knox tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Shahrough is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Knox can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Shahrough is in the full mount, landing strikes.


Knox is rocked!
Shahrough looking to finish here with some ground and pound. He lands one big shot that has Knox covering up... and two more big strikes land, forcing the referee to step in and put and end to proceedings! This fight is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:39 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Darius Shahrough!
