Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Robby Avery!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Matheus Alves!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Paulo Santos and Edson Gomes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alves circles away from the clinch attempt
and Alves holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Alves manages to break the clinch.
Alves tries to close the distance and clinch up but Avery swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Alves tries to clinch up.
Avery shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Avery showed some decent athleticism there.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Alves is looking to control Avery's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Alves avoid being mounted?
Avery wants to control but Alves is keeping him busy.
Avery wants to stand but Alves has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Alves trying to control but Avery postures up.

Alves wants to get back to his feet.
Avery really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Avery controlling the action here.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Alves shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Avery pinned against the cage. Avery gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Alves gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Avery to score an easy takedown into full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Alves is trying to control the position from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Alves is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Avery is controlling him.
Avery stands and throws Alves's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Alves regains half guard.
Avery tries to stand but can't do so whilst Alves controls his leg.
Avery passes the guard and advances to mount!
Avery working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Alves looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Avery! Submission of the night perhaps?
