PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Terrell Suggs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Woods (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jack Woods told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Terrell Suggs!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jack Woods!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Suggs on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Woods. Woods obviously looking to wear him down.
A jab from Suggs misses.
Suggs feints and then cracks Woods's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Woods down.
Woods dives in and grabs Suggs's left leg, looking for a takedown. Suggs pushes down on Woods's head and hops out.
Suggs misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Woods.
A telegraphed right hand from Suggs misses the target.

Woods scores with a takedown into Suggs's guard.
Suggs is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Suggs working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Woods.
Woods trying to control the position from guard on top but Suggs is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Woods is looking to advance position but Suggs has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Woods is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Woods has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Suggs misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Suggs wants to control the pace but Woods is squirming around nicely.
BOOM! Suggs connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Suggs wants to control but Woods is keeping him busy.
Suggs knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Woods on the ground.
Woods tries to roll over but Suggs keeps him under control.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Suggs throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Suggs will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Terrell Suggs.

The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Suggs checks a leg kick.
Suggs throws a right and a left that Woods avoids nicely.
Suggs is looking light on his feet compared to last time was saw him fight.
Suggs waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Woods.
A decent looking cross lands there for Suggs.
Woods slips a jab from Suggs.
Woods uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Suggs.
Woods checks the leg kick.
Suggs misses with a hook. Woods ducked under it nicely.
Woods looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Suggs throws a right and a left that Woods avoids nicely.
Suggs tried to score with a low kick but Woods checks it.
Woods fakes the leg kick and cracks Suggs in the body.

Woods takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Woods shoots in looking for a takedown but Suggs manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Woods's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Terrell Suggs has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jack Woods.
Suggs motions for Woods to come forward. Suggs throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Suggs missing with a left hand there. Woods was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Terrell Suggs seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Woods darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Suggs is looking to improve his position.
Woods wants to take a breather but Suggs is having none of it.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Woods missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Woods is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Suggs is just riding it out for now. Woods eventually gives up the hold.
Suggs wants to control but Woods is keeping busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Terrell Suggs dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Suggs misses with a double jab.
A slow jab from Suggs misses its intended target.
Suggs throws a leg kick but Woods moved away.

Woods changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Suggs looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Woods throwing strikes but missing, from side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Suggs is trying to get back to half guard.
Woods tries to advance to mount but can't.
You can see the frustration on Suggs's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Woods has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Suggs!
Jack Woods has got the better of the ground game so far.
Woods with the ground and pound from mount.
Suggs takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Woods can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Suggs is looking to escape.

Suggs bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Suggs content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Woods looking for a sweep. Not yet Woods, not yet.
Suggs looking to sit in guard and control but Woods gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Suggs wants to sweep here but Woods controlling him for the moment.
Woods scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Woods won't allow Suggs to get back to his feet.
Woods pushing down on Suggs's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Suggs tries to kick Woods off but Woods keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Woods keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Suggs takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Woods has hold of Suggs's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Suggs tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Woods cranks the arm and Suggs screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Suggs, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Jack Woods!
After winning the bout, Jack Woods thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
