Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Makao Matsumoto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Martin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Matsumoto's entrance music is Sepultura - Territory . A fine choice. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 14 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Makao Matsumoto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Michael Martin!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Seu Braga and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Matsumoto shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Matsumoto not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Matsumoto has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Matsumoto throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Matsumoto wants to pass to mount but Martin is defending the position.
Matsumoto thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Matsumoto wants to take a breather but Martin is having none of it.

Martin wants to stand and escape but Matsumoto is having none of it.

Martin is looking to control Matsumoto's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Martin avoid being mounted?
Matsumoto is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Martin!
Matsumoto fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Matsumoto scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Martin?
Matsumoto can't control as he wanted to and Martin manages to get the fight back to his half guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Matsumoto seems to be working for a kimura but Martin defends the submission attempt.
Matsumoto seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Martin does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Martin on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Matsumoto is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Martin defends it well.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Matsumoto has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Martin is looking to improve his position.
Matsumoto throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Matsumoto swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Martin throws a jab when Matsumoto was well out of range.
Martin has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Matsumoto is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Martin lands with an uppercut that bounces Matsumoto off the cage and back into range.
Matsumoto takes a swing at Martin's ribcage but misses.
Martin defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Matsumoto.
Matsumoto has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Matsumoto there as he acknowledges the shot.
Martin lands a leg kick that knocks Matsumoto off balance momentarily.
Martin attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Matsumoto ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Martin moves away.
Matsumoto lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Matsumoto moves out of range of the strikes.
Matsumoto misses with a takedown attempt - Martin sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Matsumoto gets the takedown into side control.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Martin avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Matsumoto.
Matsumoto is looking to take a break and control but Martin is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Matsumoto throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Martin works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.

Matsumoto wants to take a breather but Martin is having none of it.

Matsumoto takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Matsumoto throwing shots but Martin is blocking nicely.
Martin regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Matsumoto.
Matsumoto sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Martin's guard.
Matsumoto seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Matsumoto passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Martin!

Makao Matsumoto overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Matsumoto sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Martin really wants to buck Matsumoto off and get back to his feet.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Martin is rocked!
A big strike lands for Matsumoto! That's really hurt Martin and he's turned his back - Matsumoto keeps firing away and the ref dives in to stop the fight! Matsumoto jumps to his feet to celebrate the victory!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:54 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Makao Matsumoto!
During a confident post fight interview, Makao Matsumoto thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
