PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Oliver Reed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Juan Tamad (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Reed comes to the cage accompanied by Jean Baptiste Lully - Marche Royale. Tamad comes into a darkened arena with his song building. The Joker kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 28 - 16 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Oliver Reed!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, Juan Tamad!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Colin Fotheringham and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Reed tries to score with a low kick but Tamad moves his leg out of the way.
Tamad is looking to slow Reed down with leg kicks.
Reed blocks a jab.
Tamad has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Reed is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Reed steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Tamad.
Reed has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

and Tamad counters with a single leg into guard. Reed didn't expect that.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Reed uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Tamad.
Tamad swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Reed.
Reed lands with a kick to the temple. Tamad shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Reed throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Tamad.
Tamad ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Reed finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Tamad lands with an uppercut that bounces Reed off the cage and back into range.
Juan Tamad seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Tamad tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Reed swivels and escapes.
Oliver Reed has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Juan Tamad.
Reed shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Tamad connects with a good right hand that stumbles Reed. Reed circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Tamad throws a combination. Reed tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Tamad stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Reed stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Reed wants it to stay on the feet.

Reed lands a nice looking kick to the body. Tamad takes a step back to recover.

Tamad attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Reed lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Tamad has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Tamad and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Reed escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
A left lands for Tamad.
Tamad throws a body punch but Reed moves out of range.
Reed lands a head shot.
Reed throws a leg kick but Tamad sees it coming and checks it nicely.

Reed on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Tamad. Tamad obviously looking to wear him down.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Tamad connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Reed lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Tamad.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Reed.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Juan Tamad will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Reed is looking to wear down Tamad with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.

Reed throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Reed loads up on a big right hand but Tamad slips the punch.
Reed's jab looks to have found its range, popping Tamad under the eye.
Reed connects with a leg kick. Tamad looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Reed on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Tamad connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Reed momentarily.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Tamad crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Reed - the referee stops the clock and Tamad gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Reed. Tamad manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Reed bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Tamad's guard.
Reed wants to get up but he can't break Tamad's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Tamad wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Reed is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.

Tamad lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Reed takes a swing at Tamad's ribcage but misses.
Reed tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Tamad was well out of range. Poor timing from Reed.
Reed changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.

Tamad shoots in and bounces Reed off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

That was a close second round but I would say that Oliver Reed will probably get the nod.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

I would just about give that final round to Juan Tamad.
I think Tamad has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
