PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ted Mcconnell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gustavo Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Gustavo Gracie was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ted Mcconnell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gustavo Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Tiny Johnson and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mcconnell shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Gracie manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Gracie working for a triangle but Mcconnell defends it easily.
Mcconnell working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Mcconnell throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Gracie works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Mcconnell has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Gracie wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Gracie keeping moving, preventing Mcconnell from controlling successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mcconnell throws a big right hand that misses.
Gracie is trying to keep Mcconnell in close.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Gustavo Gracie has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Gracie shoots for a double leg takedown but Mcconnell sprawls well. He's pushed Gracie's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Mcconnell has Gracie up against the cage in a clinch.
A right hook to the body lands for Mcconnell.
Mcconnell dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.
Gracie prevents Mcconnell from breaking the clinch.

Mcconnell has Gracie pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Mcconnell pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Gracie tumbling to the mat - Mcconnell dives into Gracie's guard.
Gracie is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Mcconnell stands and steps away. Gracie gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Mcconnell shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Gracie is trying to defend but Mcconnell finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Gracie moves into full guard.

Gracie has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Mcconnell can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Mcconnell wants to pass the guard but Gracie is keeping the position.
Gracie looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Mcconnell postures up.

Gracie pushes Mcconnell off and gets back to his feet.
Gracie should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Gracie gets a double leg takedown into Mcconnell's guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mcconnell looking to control but Gracie passes into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gracie works his way into side control.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Mcconnell manages to get back to half guard.
Gracie moves nicely into side control.

Gracie working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Gracie wants to control but Mcconnell is keeping him busy.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Gracie is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Gracie passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Mcconnell!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Gracie postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Mcconnell looks a forlorn figure.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Mcconnell really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

Gracie working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Mcconnell turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Gracie off and cradles Mcconnell's limp body as Gracie celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Gustavo Gracie!
