PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Belin Billet (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Zachery Rey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Billet comes into the arena with BOOM BAM! blaring out of the sound system. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 33 - 22 - 2, fighting out of New York, Belin Billet!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 28 - 14 - 1, fighting out of New York, Zachery Rey!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Bruno Lombardi and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rey throws a predictable looking body shot

and Billet counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Billet.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Rey scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Rey throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Rey has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Billet looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Rey stalks Billet and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Billet's face. Billet staggers backwards, shaken.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Rey swinging wildly here.
Rey connects with a leg kick. Billet looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Nice sprawl there from Rey as Billet shoots in.

Rey closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Billet wants to get back to striking at distance but Rey won't allow it.
Billet takes a knee right on the jaw!
Rey swings wildly with an uppercut but Billet uses good head movement to avoid it.
Billet scores with a shot to the side of Rey's head.
Rey lands with a left to the head.
Rey has Billet pressed against the cage.
Billet lands a shoulder strike.
Rey gets through Billet's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Rey is pushing Billet up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Rey lands with a left to the head.
Rey landing knees to the head.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Billet fails to pull guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Belin Billet. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Billet blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Billet tries to pull guard but Rey forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Rey has Billet pressed against the cage, preventing Billet from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Rey with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.

Billet successfully pulls guard.

Billet has his foot on Rey's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Rey works his way back into a safe position though.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Billet looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Rey trying to control the position from guard on top but Billet is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Zachery Rey.
Rey throws a combination that misses
and Billet counters with a three punch combo that has Rey backing up. Rey nods at Billet to acknowledge the strikes.
Rey stuffs the takedown attempt from Billet. Billet gets slowly back to his feet.
Rey tries to clinch up but Billet circles away and keeps his distance.
Billet shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Rey defends it nicely.
Rey will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
A slapping leg kick lands for Rey.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Rey gets a clinch.
Rey misses with the head strike.
Rey fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Rey gets through Billet's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Billet tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Rey is pressed up against the cage. Billet has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Rey down to the mat. Rey avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Zachery Rey seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Rey connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Billet takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
We've been told by Billet's head coaches at MMA Warrior (1000$ / 15 Elite Coaches) that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Rey looks to land a left hand but Billet moved out of range nicely.
Zachery Rey is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Billet throws a looping overhand right but Rey ducks down to avoid it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Zachery Rey dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Billet shoots in and drives through. Rey sprawls well.
Rey closes the distance looking to clinch

and Billet counters with a single leg into guard. Rey didn't expect that.
Rey keeping moving, preventing Billet from controlling successfully.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Rey can do anything to dispel that myth.
Billet throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Rey works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Rey is working an open guard so Billet takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
The fight stays on the outside here - Rey looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Rey drives through and clinches with Billet against the cage.
Rey misses with a punch on the inside.

Rey tries to stall but Billet uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Zachery Rey seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.

Billet is trying to pull guard but Rey turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Billet fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Billet had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Rey defends it easily.

Billet is looking to cinch up a triangle. Rey throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Billet's body to avoid the submission. Billet has instead reached around Rey's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Billet arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:39 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Belin Billet!
Belin Billet really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that KAISER logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
