PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rey Malapitan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Jordan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jordan has chosen We are the Champions as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rey Malapitan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Michael Jordan!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jordan looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Jordan misses with a double jab.

Jordan is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Malapitan's half guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Malapitan is pressing down on Jordan's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Jordan stopping the sweep attempt from Malapitan.
Jordan trying to control the position from guard on top but Malapitan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Malapitan is adopting a defensive guard.
Jordan wants to control from the top but Malapitan keeps moving.
Jordan told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.
Jordan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Malapitan. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Malapitan has control of Jordan's left arm, preventing Jordan from doing any damage.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Michael Jordan was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Jordan throws a head kick but Malapitan moves out of range.

It looks like Rey Malapitan has been cut.

Jordan tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Malapitan counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Malapitan trying to control but Jordan is working from the bottom.
Jordan can't keep his opponent in guard - Malapitan advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Malapitan looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Jordan is trying to maintain the position but Malapitan is very close to passing his half guard.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Malapitan is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Jordan has managed to free his arm - good work.
We've been hearing that Malapitan has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Malapitan postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Jordan to stand up.
Jordan shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Malapitan counters with a takedown into side control.
Jordan is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Jordan wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Malapitan thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Malapitan looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Malapitan is putting a hurting on Jordan here, landing some big shots from side control.
Malapitan cracks Jordan with a big right hand but Jordan just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Malapitan tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Malapitan has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Malapitan works to advance to full mount. Jordan defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Jordan tries to hold on but Malapitan pushes him away.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Malapitan wants to control the pace but Jordan is squirming around nicely.
Malapitan landing strikes from the mount and Jordan is in trouble!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

so Malapitan counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Jordan is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Malapitan is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Jordan defends it well.

Malapitan is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Jordan is just riding it out for now. Malapitan eventually gives up the hold.

Malapitan is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Jordan doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Malapitan.

Malapitan stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Jordan to get to his feet.

Rey Malapitan overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Malapitan thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Malapitan postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Malapitan is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Malapitan controls from within his opponent's guard.

Malapitan wants to control from the top but Jordan keeps moving.
Malapitan is really struggling to control Jordan but he's trying to hold on to the position.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Jordan is looking to stand up but Malapitan isn't so interested in that idea.

Rey Malapitan has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
The fight stays on the outside here - Jordan looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Malapitan looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Malapitan is working for a kimura but Jordan is defending it quite comfortably.

Malapitan is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Jordan has managed to free his arm - good work.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Malapitan connects with a nice short shot to Jordan's temple.

Malapitan is working for a submission of some sort.

Malapitan is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Malapitan is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Jordan defends it well.

Malapitan is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Jordan doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Malapitan.

Jordan is bucking up trying to escape but Malapitan cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Malapitan is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. Jordan is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. Jordan flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Malapitan anticipates the leg and manages to get behind Jordan and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Malapitan slips an arm under Jordan chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Malapitan has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Malapitan is squeezing on Jordan like an anaconda would it's prey. Jordan fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Rey Malapitan!
After the fight, Rey Malapitan was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
The defeated Michael Jordan had this to say: 'I will come back to this cage with a vengeance...'.
