The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Santiago darts in trying to clinch

and Mendes counters by clinching up.
Santiago lands a nice elbow.
Santiago gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.

Santiago comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.

Mendes has picked Santiago up - he's going for a ride! Mendes dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Mendes is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Santiago is just riding it out for now. Mendes eventually gives up the hold.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mendes is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Santiago doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Mendes.

Mendes is working for a kimura but Santiago is defending it quite comfortably.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Mendes is looking for a kimura but Santiago is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Mendes to get the leverage.

Mendes is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Mendes takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Mendes is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Santiago still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Santiago has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!

Santiago is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Mendes has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Santiago is looking to defend but Mendes has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Santiago! Mendes pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Santiago taps out and this one is all over!
