Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Bruno Canuto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Boddy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Bruno Canuto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, John Boddy!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Leandro Rodrigues and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Canuto darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Canuto is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Boddy is just riding it out for now. Canuto eventually gives up the hold.

Canuto looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Canuto tries to pass to full mount but Boddy defends it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Canuto passes to side control.

Canuto wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Boddy, who protects the arm well.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Boddy is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Canuto's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Canuto is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Boddy defends it well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Canuto is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Boddy has managed to free his arm - good work.
Boddy is trying to control but can't.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Boddy is controlling Canuto's position as best he can from this difficult position.

Boddy is trying to maintain the position but Canuto is very close to passing his half guard.
Canuto wants to free his trapped foot but Boddy is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Canuto thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

That's time! Canuto's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Canuto shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Canuto stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Boddy swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Boddy is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Canuto is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Boddy is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Boddy has escaped and now he's on top!
Canuto lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Boddy!

Canuto is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Boddy has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Boddy!

Canuto is working an open guard so Boddy takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Canuto closes the distance and clinches up with Boddy, looking for a takedown. Canuto pushes Boddy against the cage but Boddy circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Canuto is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Boddy is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Canuto swings around for an armbar but Boddy sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Canuto's guard.
Boddy is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Canuto looking for a sweep. Not yet Canuto, not yet.
Boddy wants to control from the top but Canuto keeps moving.

Canuto escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Boddy gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Boddy might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Canuto kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Despite being in the dominant position, John Boddy just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Canuto changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Boddy tries to avoid it but Canuto manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Boddy to the ground. Boddy escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Boddy feints and as Canuto raises his hands in defense, Boddy changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Canuto has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Boddy can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Bruno Canuto will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Canuto shoots for a double leg takedown but Boddy sprawls well. He's pushed Canuto's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Canuto stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Boddy swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Canuto postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Boddy is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Canuto, into his guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Boddy is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Canuto defends it well.

Boddy passes the guard and advances to mount!

Canuto moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Canuto wants to sweep here but Boddy controlling him for the moment.
Boddy controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Canuto looking for a guillotine here but Boddy defends easily.
Boddy wanted to stand there but Canuto had control of the position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Bruno Canuto.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Canuto, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
