Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Chris Huss (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexei Kovalev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Chris Huss!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Alexei Kovalev!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Huss clinches up with Kovalev and pushes him back against the cage.

Kovalev keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Huss's efforts to push away.

Huss pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Kovalev tries to keep at a distance but Huss has taken the fight into the clinch.

Huss wants to get back to striking at distance but Kovalev won't allow it.
Huss goes for a takedown attempt but Kovalev pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Huss stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Kovalev.
Kovalev buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
A nice inside leg kick there by Kovalev. That's going to slow Huss down.

Huss rushes Kovalev and presses him up against the cage.
Kovalev stalling in the clinch but Huss improves position.
Huss has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Kovalev is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chris Huss. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Huss pulls guard successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kovalev trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Huss seems keen to control Kovalev's posture.

Huss manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Huss tries to break the clinch but Kovalev is controlling the position.

Huss has had enough of the clinch but Kovalev keeps him there for the moment.

Huss gets underhooks to prevent Kovalev's takedown attempt.

Kovalev wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
With the fighters up against the cage, Kovalev throws an elbow but misses.
Kovalev wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Huss has him pressed against the cage.
Huss blocks an uppercut.
Kovalev misses with a punch on the inside.
Huss is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Kovalev blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Kovalev wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Huss has him pressed against the cage.

Huss has hold of one of Kovalev's legs. Kovalev is fighting the takedown attempt but Huss gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Huss really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Huss chips away with some ground and pound.

Kovalev has his foot on Huss's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Huss works his way back into a safe position though.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Huss lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Huss uses his free foot to push down on Kovalev's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Kovalev.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Kovalev throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.

Huss throws a right hand that Kovalev ducks under and follows up with a left that Kovalev also avoids with ease.

Huss closes the distance and clinches.

Huss jumps guard and drags Kovalev to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Huss had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Kovalev defends it easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Huss pushes Kovalev off and scrambles back to his feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Huss fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Kovalev is out of range.
Huss shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Kovalev pinned against the cage. Kovalev gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Kovalev throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Huss's head.
Huss throws a lazy head kick
and Kovalev counters with a low kick, right behind Huss 's knee.

Kovalev fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Chris Huss is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Huss has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Kovalev.
Kovalev tries a head kick but it misses.
That kick from Kovalev tenderised Huss's leg. Huss is trying to keep his angry face on.

Huss lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Huss chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Kovalev can pounce on him.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

A close second round but Alexei Kovalev will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Kovalev fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Huss.
Kovalev lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

Huss changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kovalev tries to avoid it but Huss manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kovalev to the ground. Kovalev escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Huss has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Kovalev.

Huss is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.
Kovalev shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Huss pinned against the cage. Huss gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Huss has Kovalev up against the cage in a clinch.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Huss blocks a couple of punches on the inside.

Huss drags the fight down to the ground.
Huss has his hands on Kovalev's head, controlling the position.
Huss will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Huss has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Chris Huss has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Huss closes the distance and pushes Kovalev back into the cage.

Kovalev throws his legs up looking for a submission but Huss uses it to pass to side control.

Huss's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Huss sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

I think Huss has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
