PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Hipolito Huff (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Reese (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Reese has chosen The XX - Intro as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Hipolito Huff!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, John Reese!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Arvi Lind and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Reese dives in for a single leg takedown but Huff sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Huff lands a takedown into guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Reese wants to sweep but no luck.
Huff looking to pass the guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Huff's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Huff in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Reese controls Huff momentarily but Huff frees himself.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Huff fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Reese, pushing him back against the cage.
Huff could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Reese tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Reese is trying to drag Huff to the mat but Huff just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Hipolito Huff has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Reese.

Huff works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Reese controlling the position.
Reese wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Huff manages to pass to side control.
Huff tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Reese.
Still in half guard, Huff seems content to control.
Reese is trying to maintain the position but Huff is very close to passing his half guard.

Huff is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Reese tries to roll over but Huff keeps him under control.
Huff wants to free his trapped foot but Reese is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Reese is trying is best to control the position here.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

and Huff counters by clinching up.

Huff pulls guard.
Huff on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Huff tries to get out of the position.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Reese throws a big right hand that misses.
Reese won't allow Huff to sweep him here.
Reese trying to control the position from guard on top but Huff is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Reese throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Huff has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Reese can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Reese wants to control from the top but Huff keeps moving.
Huff wants to stand and escape but Reese is having none of it.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Huff seems keen to control Reese's posture.

That's time! Huff's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Reese throws a head kick but Huff moves out of range.

Huff shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Hipolito Huff has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Huff seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Huff keeping moving, preventing Reese from controlling successfully.
Huff is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Reese must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Reese drops back, looking for a kneebar! Huff looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Huff looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Huff!
Huff just content to control the position.
Huff tries to score with some ground and pound. Reese controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Huff lands some shots froms side control.

Huff is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Reese knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Huff looks up at the clock and then as Reese takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Huff smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Huff tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
The referee asks Huff politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Huff prefers to stall for the moment though.
Huff scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Reese to see if he's OK.
Reese prevents Huff from moving into mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Reese is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Huff trying to control the action but Reese is working from the bottom.
Huff lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Huff tries to move to mount but Reese blocks the move with his legs.
Reese is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Huff off and has taken his back!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Reese shoots in looking for a takedown but Huff manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Reese's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Huff throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Reese on the side of the head.
Reese closes the distance and clinches up with Huff, looking for a takedown. Reese pushes Huff against the cage but Huff circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Hipolito Huff has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Reese.
Reese moves to clinch but Huff breaks away

so Huff counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Huff advances position into side control!
Reese takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Huff wants to stand but Reese has his arm trapped.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Reese is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Huff tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Huff remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Huff tries to stand but Reese is controlling his head.
Reese is trying to control Huff's posture but Huff avoids it.
Reese is looking to reverse the position.
Huff slows the pace down.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Huff gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Reese tries to score a body lock takedown but Huff shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Reese taking a breather.
Reese is trying to pull guard but Huff turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Huff manages to pull guard.
Huff pulls Reese in close to his closed guard and prevents Reese from doing any damage or advancing position.
Huff is trying to control the position but Reese postures up.

We're going to have a standup here because Hipolito Huff wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Reese tries to clinch but Huff is having none of it.

Huff shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Reese's guard.
Reese is trying to keep Huff in close.
Huff is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Huff stands and throws Reese's legs to the side, diving into side control.
John Reese has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Hipolito Huff is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Huff takes a little break here. Reese wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Well Huff has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
