PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Leigh Freeman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Victor Hugo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hugo has chosen Anjos as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Victor Hugo enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Leigh Freeman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Victor Hugo!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Edson Gomes and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Freeman tries for a takedown but Hugo sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Hugo closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Freeman quickly recovers to half guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Hugo is looking for a kimura here.
Freeman wants to control but Hugo is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Hugo is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Freeman has managed to free his arm - good work.
Freeman blocking the ground and pound attempt from Hugo.

Hugo is trying to work for a kimura but Freeman is defending well.
Freeman is not content to let Hugo control the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hugo thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Freeman's head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Freeman is holding on to half guard well.
Freeman keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Hugo trying to control the action but Freeman is working from the bottom.
Hugo tries to stand but can't do so whilst Freeman controls his leg.
Freeman is positioning himself well to prevent Hugo advancing to mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Hugo wants to clinch but Freeman slips to the side

and Freeman holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Freeman gets underhooks to prevent Hugo's takedown attempt.
Hugo jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Freeman walks away with a smile on his face. Hugo gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Hugo tries to clinch

and Freeman holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hugo struggles to land a body shot inside as Freeman controls his hands.

Freeman breaks the clinch.

Freeman gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Freeman gets control of Hugo's arms and successfully pulls guard. Freeman will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Hugo trying to control but Freeman is working from the bottom.
Freeman knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Hugo on the ground.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Hugo postures up in Freeman's guard and throws a big left but Freeman blocks it.
Hugo wants to pass the guard but Freeman is keeping the position.

Hugo thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Hugo is fighting to break Freeman's control of his arms but Freeman is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Hugo missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hugo trying to control but Freeman is working from the bottom.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Hugo shoots in looking for a takedown. Freeman tries to sprawl out of it but Hugo keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Freeman manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Leigh Freeman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Victor Hugo.

Hugo shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Hugo was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Hugo in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Freeman is tapping! That's the end of the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Victor Hugo!
Victor Hugo was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
