Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Solomon Gillespie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, James Nickson!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Trevor Gratis and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gillespie throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Gillespie tries to clinch but Nickson is having none of it.
Gillespie on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Nickson lands a jab-cross combination.
Gillespie could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Gillespie.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Nickson is pushing Gillespie's head away, looking to escape. Gillespie manages to hold on to the position though.
Nickson is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Nickson prevents Gillespie from moving into mount.
Gillespie tries to score with some ground and pound. Nickson controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Gillespie tries to advance to mount but Nickson denies him.
Nickson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gillespie. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gillespie controls the position.
Nickson avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Gillespie.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Nickson can do anything to dispel that myth.
Gillespie is looking to take a break and control but Nickson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

We're going to have a standup here because Solomon Gillespie wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Gillespie shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Nickson as he avoids it easily.
Nickson's jab looks to have found its range, popping Gillespie under the eye.
James Nickson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gillespie looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Gillespie throws a low kick but Nickson avoids it.
Gillespie tries to clinch there but Nickson circles away.
Gillespie fails to land the takedown.
Gillespie shoots in for a takedown but Nickson shows good takedown defense.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Solomon Gillespie. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gillespie will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
James Nickson is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Nickson lands a nice looking body shot.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nickson lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.


It looks like Solomon Gillespie has been cut.

Gillespie takes the fight into the clinch.
Gillespie keeps control of Nickson as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Nickson is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Gillespie fails to pull guard.
Gillespie is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Nickson is defending well for now.
Gillespie has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Gillespie's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Nickson connects with a body shot that sends Gillespie's belly button to the back.
Gillespie is breathing heavily.
Nice straight punches there by Nickson. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Nickson.

Nickson lands a left and a right that send Gillespie crashing to the mat, dazed. Nickson thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


Gillespie is rocked!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Nickson darts in and lands a big hook, right on the button! Gillespie's legs crumble underneath him as he falls to the canvas! The ref tackles Nickson before he gets to land any more shots to his stricken foe.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). James Nickson!
