The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Santos.
Santos tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Zangiev manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Santos tries to score a power double leg takedown but Zangiev sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Santos somewhat.
Santos could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
A head kick misses from Zangiev.
Zangiev avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Santos is defended easily by Zangiev.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Zangiev displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Santos.

Santos shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Zangiev pinned against the cage. Zangiev gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Santos throws a right and a left that Zangiev avoids nicely.
Santos fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Santos shoots for a takedown but Zangiev saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Santos is breathing heavily.

Santos throws a right hand that Zangiev ducks under and follows up with a left that Zangiev also avoids with ease.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

and Zangiev decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Santos's guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Santos has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Zangiev has passed into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Santos's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Zangiev closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Zangiev is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Santos has escaped the position, nice work there.
Santos tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Zangiev wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Zangiev works to advance to full mount. Santos defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Santos can't escape the position.
Santos is really trying hard to get back to his feet.

Santos is bucking up trying to escape but Zangiev cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Zangiev tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Zangiev postures up and throws a couple of big shots that have Santos in real trouble here! The ref calls for Santos to improve his position which he doesn't do, so the referee has no choice but to end the fight due to the strikes!
