PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Viktor Kafka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Billy Batts (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kafka comes into the arena with Welcome to the Jungle blaring out of the sound system. Batts has chosen Pro-pain - Make war (not love) as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 27 - 15 - 1, fighting out of New York, Viktor Kafka!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 29 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Billy Batts!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Yukihiro Shimada and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kafka throws a low kick but Batts avoids it.
Kafka throws a front kick aimed at Batts's knee but Batts avoids it well.
Batts ducks under a wild hook from Kafka.
Kafka slips a straight right by Batts.
Kafka looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Batts lands a jab to Kafka's midsection.
Kafka thows a left - swing and a miss!
Batts tries to work over Kafka's front leg with a kick but Kafka checks it.
Kafka throws a series of strikes that have Batts backpedaling.
Batts throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Batts does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Kafka walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Kafka tries to move into range but Batts moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Batts has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.

Batts looks to land a left hand but Kafka moved out of range nicely.
Batts fakes the leg kick and cracks Kafka in the body.
Kafka is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.

Batts drops his hands momentarily and Kafka takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Kafka throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
That kick from Batts tenderised Kafka's leg. Kafka is trying to keep his angry face on.
Kafka throws a jab when Batts was well out of range.
Batts tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Batts tries to clinch up but Kafka circles away and keeps his distance.
Batts looks for the body kick but Kafka saw that one coming.

Kafka closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Batts quickly recovers to half guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Batts tries to get to full guard but Kafka has control of the leg.

Batts is looking to improve his position.
Batts is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Still in half guard, Kafka seems content to control.
Kafka working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Batts's thigh. Batts counters though and makes it back to full guard.

Batts working for a triangle but Kafka defends it easily.
Kafka would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Batts has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Kafka can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Kafka drops an elbow to the side of Batts's head.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Batts throws a right and a left that both miss.
Kafka connects with a leg kick. Batts looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.

Batts swings for the body but Kafka moves out of range.
Batts fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Kafka looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Batts will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Kafka.

Kafka gets tackled into the cage by Batts. Batts maintains the clinch.
Batts throws a head punch that misses.
Batts lands a hook to the side of the head.
Batts digs a right hand underneath Kafka's ribcage. Kafka let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Batts tries to throw a body punch but Kafka avoids it by throwing Batts back against the cage.
Batts lands a nice knee to the body.

Kafka blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Kafka has Batts pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Batts manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Viktor Kafka.
I think Kafka has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
