Hendricks has chosen Alab ng Puso-Abra as his entrance music. Alphonso Kidd has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Alphonso Kidd!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Johny Hendricks!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Josh West and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kidd pivots, looking for a leg kick but Hendricks is out of range and Kidd settles back down.
Kidd throws a head kick that misses.
Hendricks keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Hendricks throws a head kick but Kidd moves out of range.
Hendricks tries to close the distance and clinch up but Kidd swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Hendricks tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Kidd defends well and Hendricks ends up having to push Kidd into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Kidd drops down looking for an ankle pick but Hendricks pulls his leg out and moves away.
Danga de danga de dang - Kidd scores with a four punch combination!
Kidd tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Hendricks swivels and escapes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alphonso Kidd. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hendricks stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Hendricks wants it to stay on the feet.
Kidd moves in looking to clinch but Hendricks pushes him off.

Hendricks fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Kidd sprawls well initially but Hendricks persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
My spies in Brick Brawlers MMA (13 Coaches) inform me that Hendricks has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Kidd looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Kidd wants to get back to full guard.
Kidd flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Hendricks is taking a breather. Kidd says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Kidd wants to improve his position but Hendricks is controlling well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kidd really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Well, if Hendricks is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Hendricks is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Kidd has managed to free his arm - good work.

Hendricks scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Hendricks moves nicely into side control.
Kidd tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Kidd pushes Hendricks away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Hendricks gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Hendricks is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Kidd will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Kidd's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Hendricks drives through with a takedown into Kidd's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Kidd wants to control but Hendricks is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Hendricks is breathing heavily.
Hendricks slows the pace down in half guard.

Hendricks's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Kidd is looking to control Hendricks's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Kidd avoid being mounted?
Kidd is not content to let Hendricks control the position.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Hendricks keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

Alphonso Kidd has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Kidd fails to land the takedown.

Hendricks tries to clinch but Kidd moves out of range.
Kidd fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Hendricks avoids it really well and circles away.
Kidd throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Kidd shoots for a double leg takedown but Hendricks sprawls well. He's pushed Kidd's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alphonso Kidd. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hendricks tries to clinch up but Kidd circles away and keeps his distance.

Hendricks changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Kidd looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Kidd is trying to get back to half guard.

Hendricks has hold of Kidd's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Kidd tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Hendricks cranks the arm and Kidd screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Kidd, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Johny Hendricks!
A relieved looking Johny Hendricks thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
