PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Alex Kowalski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bada Boom (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Boom has chosen Here Comes the BOOM by: POD as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Alex Kowalski could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Bada Boom's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Alex Kowalski!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Bada Boom!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Jeff Smith and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kowalski fails with an attempt to clinch.

Boom drives through and clinches with Kowalski against the cage.
Kowalski is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Boom is trying to break the clinch but Kowalski has him pressed against the cage.
Kowalski has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Boom after a bit of a struggle.
Boom is trying to pull guard but Kowalski has him pressed against the cage.
Kowalski avoiding damage.

Kowalski breaks from the clinch.
Boom's corner calls for a 1-2. Boom obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
A jab from Boom finds it's way through Kowalski's defenses.
Kowalski is looking to clinch but Boom is avoiding it.
Boom stuns Kowalski with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Boom just misses with a punch to the body.
Boom shoots for a double leg takedown but Kowalski sprawls well. He's pushed Boom's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kowalski closes the distance but Boom moves to the side
and Boom counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Kowalski pushes Boom up against the cage in a clinch.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Boom has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Boom tries to pull guard but Kowalski won't allow it.
Alex Kowalski has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bada Boom.
Boom goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Boom fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Boom has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Kowalski uses from the top position.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Boom escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kowalski gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Boom has his foot on Kowalski's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Kowalski works his way back into a safe position though.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Kowalski trying to control the position from guard on top but Boom is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Boom isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Kowalski stacks Boom on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Kowalski!
Kowalski is looking to take a break and control but Boom is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Boom tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Kowalski wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Boom keeps trying to improve his position.

Kowalski stands up and beckons Boom to his feet.
Boom fails with a takedown attempt.

Kowalski moves into range and clinches up with Boom.
Boom tries to pull guard but Kowalski holds him up against the cage and eventually Boom drops back down to his feet.

Kowalski pulls guard effortlessly.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kowalski trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Boom trying to control but Kowalski is working from the bottom.
Boom won't allow Kowalski to sweep him here.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Boom passes Kowalski's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Boom throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Boom is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Kowalski defends it well.
Boom trying to control the action but Kowalski is working from the bottom.

Boom is trying for a kimura here. Kowalski looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Boom wins by kimura!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Bada Boom!
During a confident post fight interview, Bada Boom thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
