Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Josh Wright (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cain Velasquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). This should be a great matchup!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Josh Wright!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Cain Velasquez!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Albert Achterberg and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Velasquez darts in and clinches Wright up against the cage.
A bit of stalling here from Wright.

Velasquez ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Velasquez no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Velasquez is on top in guard.

Velasquez postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Wright is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Velasquez, into his guard.
Velasquez manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Wright manages to get himself to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Velasquez must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Wright is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Wright could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Wright is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Velasquez defends well.
Wright wants to get back to his feet but Velasquez passes into half guard.
Velasquez wants to pass to mount but Wright is defending the position.

Wright manages to get back to half guard.

Velasquez is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Velasquez is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Velasquez is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Wright doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Velasquez.

Wright moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Velasquez has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Wright is proving hard to escape from.
Wright wants to sweep but no luck.

Velasquez is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Wright keeping moving, preventing Velasquez from controlling successfully.
Wright bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Velasquez's guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Velasquez wants to sweep here but Wright controlling him for the moment.
Velasquez has control of Wright's left arm, preventing Wright from doing any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cain Velasquez dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Wright doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Velasquez moves into the clinch.

Velasquez jumps into guard, dragging Wright to the mat.

Wright avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Velasquez wants to stand and escape but Wright is having none of it.
Velasquez controlling Wright's posture.
Wright will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Wright wants to get up but he can't break Velasquez's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Velasquez wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Cain Velasquez hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Velasquez shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Wright's guard.
Velasquez is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Velasquez won't allow Wright to get back to his feet.
Velasquez looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Velasquez is looking to stand up but Wright won't let him.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Velasquez postures up.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Cain Velasquez.

Velasquez shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Wright manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Velasquez got a little sloppy there for a moment and Wright has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Velasquez has managed to get both his arms back between Wright's legs - danger averted.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Velasquez lands a couple of digs.

Velasquez is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Wright wants to get back to his feet but Velasquez is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Velasquez chips away with some ground and pound.

Velasquez seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Cain Velasquez.
Wright avoids the head kick by Velasquez.

Velasquez has taken the fight to the clinch.
Velasquez slows down the pace here.
Wright tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Velasquez pulls guard successfully.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Velasquez can do anything to dispel that myth.
Velasquez wants to stand and escape but Wright is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cain Velasquez showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Velasquez shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Wright is trying to defend but Velasquez finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Wright wants to control but Velasquez is having none of it.
Wright is in all sorts of trouble here.

Velasquez lands a heavy elbow.

It looks like Josh Wright has been cut.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Velasquez drops a big elbow. That's hurt Wright! More shots from Velasquez and the ref steps in! The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:33 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Cain Velasquez!
A pretty intense looking Cain Velasquez took the opportunity post-fight to ask for a shot at the title.
