Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kyle Stanley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gustavus Adolphus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stanley kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is The man that you FEAR . These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Kyle Stanley!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Gustavus Adolphus!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Dmitry Maklakov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stanley scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Stanley uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Adolphus has time to react.
Adolphus fails with the takedown
enabling Stanley to counter with a crisp jab.

Stanley fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Adolphus sprawls well initially but Stanley persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Adolphus looks like he's trying to stand up.
Stanley wants to pass the guard but Adolphus is defending well.
Adolphus is trying to stand up here but Stanley is controlling him well.
Stanley wants to control but Adolphus is keeping him busy.
Stanley throwing shots but Adolphus is blocking nicely.

Stanley stops Adolphus from getting back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Stanley is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Stanley looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Stanley looks to land a strike but Adolphus avoids it nicely and regains full guard.

Stanley stops Adolphus from standing up.
Adolphus utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Stanley stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Adolphus swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Stanley chips away with some ground and pound.
Stanley is looking to work some ground and pound but Adolphus has wrist control.

Adolphus avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Stanley stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Adolphus swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Adolphus is looking to stand up but Stanley isn't so interested in that idea.
Stanley is looking to work some ground and pound but Adolphus has wrist control.
Stanley throws an elbow that misses. Adolphus uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Stanley's guard. Nice move by Adolphus!
Stanley has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Adolphus got a little sloppy there for a moment and Stanley has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Adolphus has managed to get both his arms back between Stanley's legs - danger averted.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kyle Stanley dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Adolphus misses with a takedown attempt - Stanley sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Gustavus Adolphus seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Adolphus takes one to the chin there.
Adolphus takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Adolphus shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Stanley throws a front kick that sends Adolphus stumbling back into the cage.
Stanley scores with a shot to the body.
Adolphus walks into a stiff left hand from Stanley.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
A slapping body kick lands there for Stanley.
Stanley connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Adolphus momentarily.
Nice body kick there by Stanley.
Stanley works Adolphus's body with a nice hook.

Stanley gets a clinch.
Stanley blocking some punches.
Stanley lands a left hand.
Adolphus is breathing heavily.
Stanley lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Stanley leaning his opponent against the cage.
Stanley lands with a light punch inside.
Stanley scores with a shoulder strike.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Stanley swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Stanley softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.
Stanley goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
A head punch on the inside from Adolphus fails to land.
A short body shot lands from Stanley as the two fighters clinch.
Stanley pushes Adolphus back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
I was talking to Stanley's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Stanley scores with an uppercut up the middle.


Adolphus is rocked!
Stanley creates a bit of space for himself and rocks Adolphus with a big uppercut! Adolphus tries to clinch up but Stanley pushes him back against the cage and lands another monster strike that crumples Adolphus to the mat! Adolphus covers up and Stanley unloads with more strikes until the referee steps in to end the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:30 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Kyle Stanley!
Kyle Stanley retains his heavyweight title!
An intense looking Kyle Stanley took to the microphone post fight and gave a little speech: 'You thought you could win? You thought you could beat CBK?'.
