PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dustin Waller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carter Macki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Carter Macki will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dustin Waller!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Carter Macki!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Anthony Taglia and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Macki tries to sprawl but Waller drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Still in half guard, Waller seems content to control.
Macki is looking for a sweep. Waller is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Macki tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

Macki looking for submissions off his back.
Macki is looking for a sweep. Waller is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Waller is looking to take a break and control but Macki is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Macki tries to kick Waller off but Waller keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Macki is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Waller seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Macki does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Dustin Waller wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Waller tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Macki manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Macki tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Waller defends well and Macki ends up having to push Waller into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Waller striking off his back but it's not causing Macki any problems.
Waller is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Macki is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Macki has gone for a leg lock! Waller slips out almost immediately though and dives into Macki's guard.
Waller might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Waller trying to stand up but can't free himself from Macki's guard.
Macki is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Waller would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Macki keeping moving, preventing Waller from controlling successfully.
Waller stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Macki swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Macki thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Macki scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Macki avoids the head kick by Waller.

Macki scores with a takedown into Waller's guard.
Macki tries to free his leg and advance position but Waller is retaining full guard.
Macki trying to control but Waller is working from the bottom.
Waller is pulling down on Macki's head. It's preventing any offense from Macki, at least for the moment.
Waller is trying to keep Macki in close.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Waller is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

We're going to have a standup here because Dustin Waller wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Macki throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Waller was covering up waiting for the punch and Macki finishes the takedown easily into guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Waller is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Macki working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Carter Macki will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Waller closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Macki did well to prevent Waller getting side control.
Macki looks like he's trying to stand up.

Waller wants to control but Macki is keeping him busy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Macki regains full guard. Nicely done.

Macki had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Waller defends it easily.

Waller could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Macki looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Waller passes into side control.

Waller tries to stand but Macki is controlling his head.
Macki is looking to regain half guard here but Waller keeps moving and retains side control.
Waller tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Waller working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Waller wants to stand but Macki has his arm trapped.
Macki tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Waller controls the position.
Waller is looking to take a break and control but Macki is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Waller gets to mount! Macki was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Macki is trying desperately to improve position.
Macki swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Waller wants to get back to his feet but Macki is holding on tight.
Macki regains half guard.
Waller has decided to stand back up but his arm is trapped. Whilst he's worrying about his arm, Macki works to full guard.
Macki manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Waller manages to get himself to full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Waller is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Macki is controlling him.
Waller looking to hit a scissor sweep but Macki is one step ahead there.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Waller keeping moving, preventing Macki from controlling successfully.
Macki's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Dustin Waller overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Macki trying to control the position from guard on top but Waller is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Macki pushes down on Waller's leg and manages to get into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Dustin Waller will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. And we move into the final round!



Waller closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Waller lands in his opponent's guard.

Macki is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Waller has his hands clasped together but Macki extends and breaks Waller's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Macki.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:30 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Carter Macki!
