PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Carson Hughes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jesse Carver (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hughes comes to the cage accompanied by damn it feels good to be a gangsta. Carver has chosen Kopi Dangdut as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Carson Hughes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jesse Carver!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hughes looks to land a combination but Carver avoids it well.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Hughes!
Hughes misses with a double jab.
Hughes lunges at Carver with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Carver's hand.
Hughes feints a jab promting Carver to slip. Hughes then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Carver slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

Hughes has Carver up against the cage in a clinch.
Hughes gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Carver.
A frustrated look appears on Hughes's face as he tries to break the clinch.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Carver goes for a takedown attempt but Hughes pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Hughes throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hughes misses with a few strikes there.
Carver slips a jab and a cross from Hughes.

Carver closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Carver lands in his opponent's guard.
Hughes wants to stand and escape but Carver is having none of it.
Hughes looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Carver postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Hughes utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Carver missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Hughes wants to stand and escape but Carver is having none of it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Carver's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Carver in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Hughes keeping moving, preventing Carver from controlling successfully.
Hughes wants to stand and escape but Carver is having none of it.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Jesse Carver has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Hughes swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Hughes gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Hughes prevents the takedown attempt.
Carson Hughes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jesse Carver.
Hughes wants to break the clinch but can't.
Hughes has had enough of the clinch but Carver keeps him there for the moment.
Carver drops down looking for an ankle pick but Hughes pulls his leg out and moves away.
Hughes falls off balance throwing a combination

and Carver holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Hughes breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Carver shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Hughes as he avoids it easily.
Carver darts in looking for a takedown but Hughes gets double underhooks and turns Carver into the cage.
Carver has Hughes pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Hughes manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Hughes is trying to force a seperation but Carver has the dominant position.
Carver has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Hughes avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Carver drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Hughes gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Carver looks winded!
Hughes misses with a body punch.
A frustrated look appears on Hughes's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Carver is trying to drag Hughes to the mat but Hughes just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Hughes is trying to push Carver away but Carver has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Hughes has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hughes missing with knees to the body.
Hughes wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Carver can't get the takedown.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Carson Hughes dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Hughes throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Hughes has closed the distance and engaged Carver in a clinch.

Carver has clasped his hands together around Hughes's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Carver misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Hughes wants to get back to his feet.
Carver has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Hughes is looking to get to half guard.
Carver lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Carver controlling his opponent.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Carver punishing his opponent with strikes.
Hughes wants to try and get back to his feet.
Carver pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Hughes is trying to stand up.
Carver putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
Carver lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
You get the feeling that Hughes really doesn't like being in this position too much.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Carver is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Hughes can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Hughes is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Carver trying to control but Hughes is having none of it.
Carver tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Carver is landing with some decent strikes but Hughes is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Carver lands a couple of good shots and Hughes has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
Hughes looking to stop the rear naked choke attempt by controlling the hands.
Carver lands an elbow to the side of the head.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hughes is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Carver cracks Hughes with a big shot to body and one to the head - really punishing Hughes from the back mount here, looking to soften him up.
Jesse Carver has got the better of the ground game so far.

Hughes is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Carver gets his way!

Carver is working on the RNC. He looks like he's got it but Hughes won't tap... Oh, he's out! The ref rips Carver off his unconscious opponent!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:44 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Jesse Carver!
A relieved looking Jesse Carver thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
