Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sho Kazuki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ken Watts (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Sho Kazuki has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Sho Kazuki!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ken Watts!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Donatello Bradman and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kazuki tries to improve his position but instead Watts has taken his back!

Let's hope that Watts has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Kazuki rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

Kazuki is trying to hold Watts in close to prevent damage but Watts has managed to pass into half guard.

Kazuki working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Watts doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Watts manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Kazuki lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Watts!
Watts tries to lock up and control but Kazuki gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Kazuki jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Watts is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Watts and Kazuki has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Kazuki tries to stand but Watts is controlling his head.
Watts tries to bench press Kazuki off him but Kazuki keeps the position.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Watts manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Watts wants to free his trapped foot but Kazuki is holding on for dear life with his legs.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Watts uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Kazuki.

Watts closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Watts lands in his opponent's guard.
Kazuki is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Watts seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Kazuki is on top in guard.

Kazuki is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Watts is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Watts has escaped and now he's on top!

Kazuki wants to control but Watts is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Kazuki has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Watts is working away from the top position though.

Watts is looking to advance position but Kazuki won't allow it.
Kazuki moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Despite being in the dominant position, Ken Watts just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Watts takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

Ken Watts showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Kazuki misses with a few strikes there.
Kazuki scores with the left hand. Watts knows he should have avoided that one.
Kazuki ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Watts moves away.
Kazuki throws a lazy right hand but Watts sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Kazuki punishes Watts's body with a nice straight punch.

Watts blocks a jab.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kazuki misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Nice takedown defense from Kazuki. No joy for Watts on that attempt.

Watts feints and as Kazuki raises his hands in defense, Watts changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Kazuki is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Watts takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Watts has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Kazuki is working away from the top position though.

Kazuki is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Watts defends it well.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Kazuki comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

That was a close round but Sho Kazuki did the better work so I'd imagine he'll take it.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Watts is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Kazuki is looking to get to half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Kazuki slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Kazuki looks to score with a jab to the body but Watts is just out of range.
Kazuki wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Kazuki throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

The crowd cheers as Kazuki lands an impressive looking overhand right. Watts doesn't seem phased though.

Watts shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Watts showed some decent athleticism there.

Both of our modern day gladiators look out of it here - an gruelling 5 rounds of action taking it's toll on them, no doubt.

Watts wants to take a breather but Kazuki is having none of it.

Kazuki has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Watts is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Kazuki.

I really don't envy Watts right now.

Kazuki is cranking Watts's head sideways - that looks painful. He's managed to get his other arm under the chin and this looks bad for Watts! He's tightened the choke and Watts is tapping out!
