PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mark Avreli (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tarmo Hovi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hovi has chosen Die for Metal as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mark Avreli!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Tarmo Hovi!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Wagner Zegers and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hovi misses with a leg kick.
Hovi on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Avreli looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Avreli scores with a jab to the head.
Avreli shoots in but Hovi avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Avreli jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Avreli tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Avreli throws a hook but Hovi avoids it easily.
Avreli throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Hovi slips a straight right by Avreli.
Avreli throws a right hand that Hovi ducks under and follows up with a left that Hovi also avoids with ease.
Hovi goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Hovi has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Avreli misses with a wild body shot.
Avreli tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Hovi was well out of range. Poor timing from Avreli.
Mark Avreli seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Avreli closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Hovi to the mat! Hovi manages to get full guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Avreli content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Avreli might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Avreli throws a big right hand that misses.
Avreli trying to control the position from guard on top but Hovi is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Hovi is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Avreli stopping the sweep attempt from Hovi.
Hovi is still trying to improve position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Avreli throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Avreli is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Hovi avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Avreli wants to pass the guard but Hovi is keeping the position.
Avreli won't allow Hovi to sweep him here.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Hovi kicks Avreli off and gets to his feet.
Tarmo Hovi is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Avreli shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Hovi as he avoids it easily.
Avreli throws a body punch but Hovi moves out of range.
Avreli misses with a takedown attempt - Hovi sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mark Avreli. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hovi slips under a jab from Avreli.

Avreli looks to score with a jab to the body but Hovi is just out of range.
Hovi misses with a head kick.
Avreli thuds a left hand into Hovi's body.
Hovi fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Avreli has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Avreli changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Avreli looks for a takedown but Hovi sprawls well.
Good work by Avreli as he checks the leg kick.

Avreli closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Hovi to the mat! Hovi manages to get full guard.
Avreli throwing strikes but missing.

Hovi looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Avreli is defending well. Hovi quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Avreli has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Hovi celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Tarmo Hovi!
After winning the bout, Tarmo Hovi thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
