PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Vitor Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mitsu Rock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Vitor Penn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mitsu Rock!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Edson Gomes and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rock misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Rock avoids a punch combination nicely.

Rock closes the distance and clinches.
Rock tries to pull guard but Penn won't allow it.
Rock misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Penn.
Rock avoiding damage as Penn throws knees to the body.
Penn wants to get back to striking at distance but Rock won't allow it.

Rock manages to break the clinch.

Rock drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Rock stops Penn from standing up.
Rock is stalling in the full guard.
Penn wants to stand but Rock is controlling the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Rock is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Penn tries to strike from the bottom.
Rock stops Penn from standing up.
Rock is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Penn is trying to control the position but Rock postures up.
Rock stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Penn swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Rock shoots in looking for a takedown. Penn tries to sprawl out of it but Rock keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Penn manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Penn wants to clinch up but Rock keeps it at a distance.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Penn shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Rock but Rock pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Rock throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Penn.
Penn shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Rock counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Penn is breathing heavily.
Rock prevents Penn from getting back to his feet.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Rock's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Penn keeping moving, preventing Rock from controlling successfully.
Rock lands a couple of digs.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rock slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Let's hope that Rock has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Rock wants to control from the top but Penn keeps moving.
Penn looking to hit a scissor sweep but Rock is one step ahead there.

Rock stands up from Penn's guard - Rock perhaps looking for a knockout.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Rock moves into range and clinches up with Penn.

Rock has clasped his hands together around Penn's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Penn is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Rock is controlling him well.
Rock passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Penn!

Rock is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. Penn is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. Penn flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Rock anticipates the leg and manages to get behind Penn and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Rock slips an arm under Penn chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Rock has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Rock is squeezing on Penn like an anaconda would it's prey. Penn fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Mitsu Rock!
