Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Neil Santos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jimmie Akesson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jimmie Akesson told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Aafke Stam and Saam Ante.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Akesson fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Santos sprawls well initially but Akesson persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Akesson thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Akesson connects with a nice short shot to Santos's temple.
Akesson seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Akesson has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Santos is not content to let Akesson control the position.

Akesson wants to take a breather but Santos is having none of it.
Akesson moves into full mount! Santos won't be happy about that!

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Santos is looking light on his feet compared to last time was saw him fight.
Santos changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Akesson tries to avoid it but Santos manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Akesson to the ground. Akesson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Akesson shoots in and drives through. Santos sprawls well.
Akesson tries to clinch up but Santos circles away and keeps his distance.

Akesson keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Santos's head.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Jimmie Akesson wasn't active enough on the ground.
Akesson shoots in looking for a takedown. Santos tries to sprawl out of it but Akesson keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Santos manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Akesson throws a head kick but Santos moves out of range.

The fight stays on the outside here - Akesson looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Akesson passes Santos's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Akesson is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Akesson looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Santos with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Akesson is figuring out what he wants to do next.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Akesson looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Akesson in particular looking to stall.

Well Akesson has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
