PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Cornell Odonnell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kyle Clow (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kyle Clow is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Cornell Odonnell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Kyle Clow!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Jeff Smith and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Clow throws a combination. Odonnell tries to block but a couple of punches get through.


It looks like Cornell Odonnell has been cut.
Kyle Clow seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Clow throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Odonnell counters with a single leg into guard. Clow didn't expect that.
Clow trying to keep a closed guard but Odonnell is proving a slippery customer.
Odonnell wants to stand but Clow has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Clow throws a left and a right that both miss

and Odonnell counters with a shoot takedown. Clow fights it but they end up in guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Clow looking to control but Odonnell passes into half guard.
Clow is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Odonnell decides to stand and escape the position.
Odonnell keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Clow tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Odonnell manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

and Odonnell counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Clow!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Odonnell stands up.
Clow misses with a looping left.
Clow keeps Odonnell at a distance using the push kick.
A punch lands to the side of Odonnell 's head but he takes it in his stride.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Clow manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Odonnell on his heels. He'll look to pass Odonnell's guard now, I'm sure.

Odonnell pushes Clow off and scrambles back to his feet.

Clow throws a series of punches but Odonnell moves out of range.
Clow throws a series of punches but Odonnell avoids them all with ease.
Clow swings widly with a right hand

and Odonnell counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Clow wants to control but Odonnell is keeping busy.
Odonnell wants to stand but Clow has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Odonnell trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Clow throws a right and a left that both miss.
Clow moves in looking to clinch but Odonnell pushes him off.
Clow throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Odonnell.
Horrible takedown by Clow or perhaps it was just good defense by Odonnell which made him look bad.

and Odonnell counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Odonnell wants to get up but he can't break Clow's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Clow swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

and Odonnell counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Clow's guard now.
Odonnell wants to get up but he can't break Clow's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Clow had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Odonnell defends it easily.
Clow is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

We're going to have a standup here because Cornell Odonnell wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
A punch lands to the side of Odonnell 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Clow goes for a double leg but Odonnell avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Odonnell continues to drive forward.
Clow prevents the takedown attempt.

Clow is trying to trip Odonnell. He has hold of a leg but Odonnell is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Clow persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Odonnell is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Clow is controlling him.

Clow throws a strike but Odonnell rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Odonnell wanted to stand there but Clow had control of the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Kyle Clow was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Clow closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Odonnell turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Clow tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Odonnell easily slips into full mount!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Clow is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Clow is in all sorts of trouble here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Clow throws a head kick that Odonnell semi-blocks.

and Odonnell decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Clow's guard.
Odonnell wants to stand but Clow is controlling his posture from full guard.
Clow is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Cornell Odonnell just wasn't active enough.
Clow darts in looking for a takedown but Odonnell gets double underhooks and turns Clow into the cage.
Clow prevents a takedown attempt there.
Odonnell goes for a takedown attempt but Clow pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Clow throws a right hand that Odonnell ducks under and follows up with a left that Odonnell also avoids with ease.
Clow fails with an attempt to clinch.

Clow throws a hook but Odonnell avoids it easily.

so Odonnell counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Clow throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Odonnell will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Odonnell wants to stand but Clow has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

We're going to have a standup here because Cornell Odonnell wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Clow fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Odonnell takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Clow closes the distance and clinches up with Odonnell, looking for a takedown. Clow pushes Odonnell against the cage but Odonnell circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Cornell Odonnell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kyle Clow.

Clow keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Clow shoots for a takedown but Odonnell saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Clow takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Clow throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Odonnell was covering up waiting for the punch and Clow finishes the takedown easily into guard.

The fight stays on the outside here - Clow looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Clow has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Clow goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Clow landing some nice looking knees to the body.
Kyle Clow has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Cornell Odonnell is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Odonnell takes a knee to the side of the body.

Kyle Clow comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Odonnell has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
