PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Donnell Hill (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones has chosen Alab ng Puso-Abra as his entrance music. Donnell Hill is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Donnell Hill!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jon Jones!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Paul Gruel and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hill tries to score a power double leg takedown but Jones sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Hill somewhat.
Nice sprawl there from Jones as Hill shoots in.
Jones shoots in looking for a takedown. Hill tries to sprawl out of it but Jones keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Hill manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Hill clinches with his opponent.
Hill landing knees to the head.
Hill looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Hill effectively controlling the action here.
Hill has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Jones avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Donnell Hill. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hill keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Jones's efforts to push away.
Jones tries to break the clinch but Hill is controlling the position.

Jones tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Hill avoids it.
Jones misses with a short punch on the inside.

Hill breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Hill could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Jones scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Hill wants to get back to full guard.

Hill is trying to stand up here but Jones is controlling him well.
Jones is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Jones tries to pass the half guard into mount. Hill knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Jones is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Hill still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Hill has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!
Hill working the ground and pound but Jones is defending the strikes.
Jones told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Jones can do anything to dispel that myth.

Jones is trying to control Hill's posture but Hill avoids it.
Jones tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Hill wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Jones manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Jones wants to get back to his feet.
Hill wants to control but Jones is keeping him busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Hill moves in looking to clinch but Jones pushes him off.
Hill wants to clinch.
Hill uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Jones.
Jones takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Hill lands a leg kick that knocks Jones off balance momentarily.
Jones darts in trying to clinch
letting Hill counter with a right hand.
Hill shoots in and drives through. Jones sprawls well.

Hill rushes Jones and presses him up against the cage.
Hill looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Jones is breathing heavily.

Hill works on Jones's body with a couple of short punches.
Jones fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Hill pushes Jones back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
Jones is looking to take this one to the mat.
Jones jumps guard but Hill stands there with Jones around his waist. Jones gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Donnell Hill has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jon Jones.
Hill is trying to break free.

Hill wants to break the clinch but can't.

Jones preventing the sweep.

Jones would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Jon Jones has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Hill slaps away a takedown attempt from Jones, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Hill clinches with his opponent.

Hill breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Jones looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
A slapping body kick lands there for Hill.
Hill closes the distance and clinches up with Jones, looking for a takedown. Hill pushes Jones against the cage but Jones circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Hill shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Crunch! Hill slams his shin into Jones's torso.
Jones swats away the attempt to clinch by Hill.
Hill lands a head kick!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hill stalks Jones and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Jones's face. Jones staggers backwards, shaken.
Jones tries to close the distance and clinch up but Hill swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Hill throws a nice head kick!
Hill keeps the fight on the outside.
Jones circles away from the clinch attempt.

Jones shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Hill napping and manages to drive through into side control!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Jones wants to stand but Hill is controlling his arm.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Jones wants to control but Hill is keeping him busy.

Jones tries for a kimura but Hill is defending well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Donnell Hill dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Hill fails with the takedown.
Jones throws a head kick that misses
and Hill counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

Jones changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Hill looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
You can see the frustration on Hill's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Hill regains half guard there - taking advantage of Jones's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
Hill is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Jones wants to stand up but Hill is controlling the position.
Hill moves into full guard.
Hill is trying to control the position but Jones postures up.
Hill tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Jones wants to control from the top but Hill keeps moving.
Jones looking to pass the guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hill trying to keep a closed guard but Jones is proving a slippery customer.
Hill wants to sweep but no luck.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Donnell Hill wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Jones throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Donnell Hill is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Hill tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Jones paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Hill lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Jones circles away quickly and effectively.
Jones shoots in for a takedown but Hill shows good takedown defense.
Hill fails in his attempt to clinch.
Jones tries to clinch up.
Hill dives in and grabs Jones's left leg, looking for a takedown. Jones pushes down on Hill's head and hops out.

Horrible takedown by Hill or perhaps it was just good defense by Jones which made him look bad.

Hill tries to sprawl but Jones drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Jones looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Hill wants to stand back up but Jones manages to pass into side control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jon Jones comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Jones has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
