The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Briedis tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Abdu is looking to score with low kicks.

Abdu moves into the clinch.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Abdu.
Abdu looks to throw an elbow but misses.
With the fighters up against the cage, Briedis throws an elbow but misses.
Briedis takes an elbow to the temple.

It looks like Maris Briedis has been cut.
Briedis drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Briedis wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Abdu breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Abdu moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
No luck for Briedis with that takedown attempt.

Abdu has managed to clinch.
Abdu creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Briedis's defenses.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Abdu connects with a knee to the head.

That has opened up Maris Briedis's cut even more.
Briedis wants to get back to striking at distance but Abdu won't allow it.
Abdu lands an elbow inside that Briedis shrugs off.

Briedis is rocked!

The cut above Maris Briedis's eye is starting to cause him problems now.

Abdu breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Briedis is still on wobbly legs! Can Abdu finish him?
Abdu explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Abdu looks for a left high kick but can't connect. Abdu backs up to catch a breather... no he lunges forward with a huge flying knee that smacks Briedis's temple! It sends Briedis violently to the canvas! The crowd goes nuts as Abdu celebrates and the doctors try to help Briedis!
