Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Andreas Saar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Juhani Talvilahti (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Andreas Saar has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Andreas Saar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Juhani Talvilahti!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Tarja Halkonen and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Talvilahti moves into the clinch.
Talvilahti avoiding damage as Saar throws knees to the body.
Talvilahti trying to land knees to the body.
Saar goes for a takedown in the clinch but Talvilahti prevents it.
Saar wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Talvilahti has him pressed against the cage.
Saar jumps guard but Talvilahti turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Talvilahti fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Saar tries to pull guard but Talvilahti holds him up against the cage and eventually Saar drops back down to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Andreas Saar. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Saar wants to get back to striking at distance but Talvilahti won't allow it.

Talvilahti breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Saar fails with the takedown.
Saar tries to score a power double leg takedown but Talvilahti sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Saar somewhat.

No luck for Saar with that takedown attempt.

Talvilahti takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Saar lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Talvilahti at a distance.
Saar pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Talvilahti closes the distance and clinches.

Saar pulls guard successfully.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Saar is trying to hold Talvilahti in close to prevent damage but Talvilahti has managed to pass into half guard.
Saar is trying to control but can't.
Saar is trying to stand back up but Talvilahti is controlling him
Saar is trying to maintain the position but Talvilahti is very close to passing his half guard.
Talvilahti looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Andreas Saar has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Saar closes the distance and clinches up with Talvilahti, looking for a takedown. Saar pushes Talvilahti against the cage but Talvilahti circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Talvilahti avoids the body shot from Saar.
Saar shoots in looking for a takedown but Talvilahti manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Saar's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Saar misses with a takedown attempt

and Talvilahti counters by clinching up.
Talvilahti scores with a nice hook to the head.
Saar avoiding damage as Talvilahti throws knees to the body.
Talvilahti can't find room to land a body shot as Saar controls the action.

Saar decides to pull guard.
Saar knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Talvilahti on the ground.
Talvilahti seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Talvilahti trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Talvilahti not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Juhani Talvilahti wasn't active enough on the ground.
Saar looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Talvilahti is fending him off so far but Saar persists. Nope, Talvilahti circles away and we're back to standing.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Talvilahti keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Saar closes the distance and clinches up with Talvilahti, looking for a takedown. Saar pushes Talvilahti against the cage but Talvilahti circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Andreas Saar will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Talvilahti closes the distance and pushes Saar back into the cage.
Saar lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Talvilahti tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Saar just stands there and leans against the cage.
Saar can't break the clinch.
Saar blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Talvilahti drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Talvilahti tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Talvilahti tries to stall but Saar uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Saar lands with a light punch inside.
Talvilahti has Saar pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Saar manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Andreas Saar has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Juhani Talvilahti.
Talvilahti fails to land with a short punch on the inside.

Talvilahti is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Saar is defending well.
Talvilahti is breathing heavily.
Saar tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Saar has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Talvilahti avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Talvilahti throws an elbow but it's blocked.
Saar jumps guard but Talvilahti stands there with Saar around his waist. Saar gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Talvilahti is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.

Talvilahti breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Nice takedown defense from Talvilahti. No joy for Saar on that attempt.

It looks like Juhani Talvilahti has been cut.
Saar fails in his attempt to clinch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Talvilahti wants to clinch up but Saar keeps it at a distance.

Talvilahti gets caught napping as Saar dives in and scores a takedown. Talvilahti manages to retain guard.
Talvilahti wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Saar has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Saar looking to sit in guard and control but Talvilahti gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Saar had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Talvilahti defends it easily.
Talvilahti is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Saar is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Talvilahti passes into half guard.
Talvilahti prevents Saar from improving his position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Talvilahti wants to pass to mount but Saar is defending the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Andreas Saar dominated that second round.
The cut man is working on Juhani Talvilahti's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Saar fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Saar throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Talvilahti stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Saar throws a head kick that misses.
Saar is looking to clinch but Talvilahti is avoiding it.

Saar drives through with a takedown into Talvilahti's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Saar wants to control from the top but Talvilahti keeps moving.
Talvilahti is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Talvilahti looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

We're going to have a standup here because Andreas Saar wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Talvilahti avoids the head kick by Saar.
Saar shoots for a double leg takedown but Talvilahti sprawls well. He's pushed Saar's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Saar closes the distance and clinches.

Talvilahti gets control of Saar's arms and successfully pulls guard. Talvilahti will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Talvilahti is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Saar trying to hold on to Talvilahti's head to control him but Talvilahti postures up.
Talvilahti has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Saar tries to lock up and control but Talvilahti gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Talvilahti controlling his opponent.
Saar wants to control but Talvilahti is having none of it.

Saar tries to control Talvilahti's body but Talvilahti pushes him off. Saar squirms to his side and now Talvilahti has his back!
Talvilahti keeps control of the position easily here as Saar tries to buck him off.
Talvilahti lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by Talvilahti.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Saar is really stuck here.

Saar wants to control his opponent's hands but Talvilahti gets his hands free.
Will Talvilahti go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?

Saar defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Talvilahti's arms.
Talvilahti takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Saar tries to roll but Talvilahti sticks to his back.
Juhani Talvilahti has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Talvilahti has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
Saar trying to control the hands but Talvilahti breaks the grip.

Juhani Talvilahti comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Saar has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
