PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nate Timmons (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Darren Merchant (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The judges for this bout are William Gold, Andrew Berry and Colin Fotheringham.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Timmons swats away the attempt to clinch by Merchant.
Merchant fails with the takedown.
Merchant dives in and grabs Timmons's left leg, looking for a takedown. Timmons pushes down on Merchant's head and hops out.
Timmons definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Timmons jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Merchant gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Timmons throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Horrible takedown by Merchant or perhaps it was just good defense by Timmons which made him look bad.
Nate Timmons has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Darren Merchant.

Merchant stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Timmons.

Merchant takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Merchant is defended easily by Timmons.
Merchant looks for a takedown but Timmons sprawls well.

and Timmons counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Timmons checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Timmons feints and then cracks Merchant's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Merchant down.
Merchant takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.

Timmons lands a big head kick that sends Merchant tumbling to the mat! Timmons takes a step backwards and waves Merchant back to his feet - he wants the finish!

Merchant is rocked!

It looks like Darren Merchant has been cut.
Timmons jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Merchant is still on wobbly legs! Can Timmons finish him?
Merchant closes the distance but Timmons moves to the side
and Timmons counters with a nice low kick that buckles Merchant's knee momentarily.
Merchant seems to have recovered his senses.
Timmons changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
A nice leg kick lands there from Timmons.
Timmons connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

Timmons throws a quick inside leg kick.
Timmons looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.

Timmons clinches with his opponent.
Merchant is trying desperately to land a takedown but Timmons is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Merchant.
Timmons misses with a body punch.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Timmons.
A left hand lands to the body for Timmons.

Timmons is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Merchant is defending well for now.
Timmons has Merchant pushed against the cage.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Timmons tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Merchant's elbow.
Timmons lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Merchant backwards.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Merchant thows a body shot but no joy.
Nate Timmons is winning the standup battle so far.
Timmons fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Merchant.
Timmons throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Merchant sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Timmons is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Merchant can do to turn this around?
Timmons throws the left hand but Merchant avoids the punch easily.
Merchant on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Timmons. Timmons obviously looking to wear him down.

A head kick from Timmons lands but Merchant takes it in his stride.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Timmons lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Timmons throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Timmons scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Timmons fakes the body blow, causing Merchant to drop his hands! Left hook to the temple! Merchant goes stiff, and falls face first into the mat. Goodnight!

In his post fight interview, Nate Timmons gave a big smile as he said 'This is for all the cans who were beaten by Meat this last year. He now knows how it feels'.
