PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Edgar Poe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Daizu Mitsusada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Mitsusada's choice of entrance music: A-Punk. Edgar Poe could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Daizu Mitsusada's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Edgar Poe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Daizu Mitsusada!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Franklyn Lucas and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mitsusada ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Mitsusada scores with a decent looking hook.

Poe closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Mitsusada to the mat! Mitsusada manages to get full guard.
Poe throwing strikes from guard but Mitsusada blocks nicely.

Mitsusada scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Poe shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Poe was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Poe is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Mitsusada can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Mitsusada seems to have recovered his senses.

Poe swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Mitsusada is now in Poe's guard. A big mistake from Poe there, giving up the dominant position!

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Poe is on top in guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Poe stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mitsusada swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Poe is looking to work some ground and pound but Mitsusada has wrist control.

Mitsusada is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Poe really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Poe has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

Mitsusada uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Poe.

Poe tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Mitsusada paws at him with a jab and circles away.

and Poe counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Mitsusada is lucky that one didn't land flush.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Edgar Poe. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Poe gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Mitsusada lands with an uppercut that bounces Poe off the cage and back into rage.

and Poe counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Mitsusada's guard now.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Poe looking to sit in guard and control but Mitsusada gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Mitsusada has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Poe is proving hard to escape from.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Poe's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Poe tries to clinch there but Mitsusada circles away.
Poe tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Poe throws a head kick that misses.
Mitsusada scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Mitsusada throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Poe stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Poe chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Mitsusada can pounce on him.

Mitsusada shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Mitsusada tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Poe tries to improve his position but instead Mitsusada has taken his back!

Mitsusada controlling the position well here. Poe rolled but Mitsusada kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Edgar Poe overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Poe throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land.

Poe bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Daizu Mitsusada showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Mitsusada moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Mitsusada closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Mitsusada seems to be working for a kimura but Poe defends the submission attempt.
Poe tries to roll over but Mitsusada keeps him under control.
Poe lands a couple of sideways elbows.
The fighters are battling for position here. Poe manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Mitsusada postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Mitsusada thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Mitsusada moves into range and connects with a jab.
Mitsusada's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Mitsusada duly obliges.
Poe tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Mitsusada stuffs the takedown attempt from Poe. Poe gets slowly back to his feet.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Mitsusada throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Mitsusada dips to his left and cracks Poe with an uppercut!
Mitsusada throws a one two combo.
Poe throws a head kick but Mitsusada moves out of range.
Daizu Mitsusada is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Mitsusada lands a jab to the head.
Poe takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Mitsusada has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.

Poe changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Mitsusada looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Poe misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Poe throws an elbow but Mitsusada slips to the side and avoids it well.
Mitsusada is working to avoid the ground and pound but Poe connects with a decent elbow.

and Poe counters with a nice double leg into side control. Mitsusada won't be happy with that.
Mitsusada is not content to let Poe control the position.
The strikes coming from Poe are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

Mitsusada has an active guard here but Poe has managed to pass into half guard.
Poe looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Mitsusada with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Mitsusada has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Mitsusada is in trouble now - Poe has advanced to mount!
Mitsusada tries to lock up and control but Poe gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Poe is looking to take a break and control but Mitsusada is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Mitsusada is trying to maintain the position but Poe is very close to passing his half guard.

I think Poe has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
