PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Evil Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roberto Gudas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Johnson might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Running with the devil......Van Halen. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Evil Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Roberto Gudas!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, David Schapiro and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Johnson rushes Gudas and presses him up against the cage.
Johnson is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Johnson with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.

Johnson lands a takedown into guard.
Gudas wants to sweep here but Johnson controlling him for the moment.
Gudas throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Gudas is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Johnson passes Gudas's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Gudas trying to control but Johnson postures up.
Johnson controlling the action here.
Johnson is pressing down on Gudas's thigh, looking to free his foot. Gudas is holding on for now.
Nice strikes from Johnson there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Johnson is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Johnson decides to return to a standing position.
A good leg kick by Gudas.
Gudas keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Gudas moves out of range of the body kick.
Gudas swinging wildly here.

Johnson moves into the clinch successfully.
Johnson is stalling here.
Gudas is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Gudas wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Johnson tries for a takedown but Gudas manages to get underhooks.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Evil Johnson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Johnson tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Gudas just stands there and leans against the cage.
Johnson is breathing heavily.
Johnson jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Gudas walks away with a smile on his face. Johnson gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Gudas lands with a thumping leg kick.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Gudas scores with a leg kick.
Johnson shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Gudas throws a nice outside leg kick.
Gudas connects with a leg kick. Johnson looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Gudas looks to score with a jab to the body but Johnson is just out of range.
Roberto Gudas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gudas connects with an inside leg kick.
Gudas lands with a kick to the temple. Johnson shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"


It looks like Evil Johnson has been cut.

Gudas throws a head kick that misses.
Gudas scoring well with a low kick there.
Gudas buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Gudas lands with a nice body kick.
Gudas throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Gudas throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Johnson moves out of range as Gudas strikes.
Johnson on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Gudas, right into the meat.
Gudas keeps Johnson at a distance using the push kick.
Johnson could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Gudas explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Gudas lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

Gudas lands a head kick that stumbles Johnson and the fighters go to the mat.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Johnson has a closed guard, preventing Gudas from standing up.
Gudas must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Gudas throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Johnson works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Gudas trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Johnson has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Gudas has passed into side control.

Gudas working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Gudas wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Johnson, who protects the arm well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The cut man is working on Evil Johnson's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Gudas lands with a thumping leg kick.
Gudas lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.

A head kick lands from Gudas that sends Johnson to the canvas. Johnson tries to scramble back to his feet but Gudas brings him back down into side control.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Gudas is looking to take a break and control but Johnson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Gudas is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Gudas has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Gudas throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Johnson works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Johnson tries to get to full guard but Gudas has control of the leg.
Johnson is staying active underneath Gudas, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Roberto Gudas has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Johnson takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
A good leg kick by Gudas.
Gudas thows a body kick. Johnson tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Gudas rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Johnson moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Johnson fails to land with a series of punches.
Gudas thumps Johnson with a low kick.

Gudas knocks Johnson to the floor with a head kick! Can he finish him!?
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Gudas trying to control the position but Johnson is working away.
Gudas wants to stand but Johnson is controlling his arm.
Gudas trying to control the action but Johnson is working from the bottom.

Gudas tries for a kimura but Johnson is defending well.

Gudas tries to score with some ground and pound. Johnson controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Gudas is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Johnson has escaped the position, nice work there.
Johnson is looking for a sweep.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
The ground and pound from Gudas seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Gudas really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Johnson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Roberto Gudas has got the better of the ground game so far.
Gudas tries to stand but Johnson is controlling his head.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Johnson regains half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Roberto Gudas showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Johnson has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Gudas.
Gudas throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Roberto Gudas seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Gudas lands a head kick. Johnson smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Gudas is looking to slow Johnson down with leg kicks.
Gudas connects with an inside leg kick.
Johnson takes a head kick and keeps coming.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Gudas scores with a push kick.
Johnson dodges the punch combination from Gudas.
A looping hook to the body misses from Gudas. Johnson does a little dance to reset his feet.
That kick from Gudas tenderised Johnson's leg. Johnson is trying to keep his angry face on.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Johnson has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Gudas.
Gudas fakes the leg kick and cracks Johnson in the body.

Johnson blocks a head kick by Gudas.
Gudas looks to score with a jab to the body but Johnson is just out of range.
Crunch! Gudas slams his shin into Johnson's torso.
Gudas lands with a slapping head kick.
A head kick from Gudas lands but Johnson takes it in his stride.
Gudas scores with a head kick.
A solid leg kick lands there for Gudas.
Gudas throws a leg kick which misses Johnson's front leg but catches the back leg as Johnson tries to avoid it.
Gudas tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Gudas throws a nice head kick!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Johnson tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Gudas fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Johnson.
Gudas throws a head kick that Johnson semi-blocks.

Johnson shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Gudas napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Johnson advances to full mount.

Gudas has left one of his arms exposed and Johnson doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Gudas screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:42 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Evil Johnson!
After the fight, Evil Johnson was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
