Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Akira Akiyama (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Peters (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Akira Akiyama!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
11 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, James Peters!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Don Winkell and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Akiyama cracks the inside of Peters's front leg.
Akiyama has closed the distance and engaged Peters in a clinch.
Akiyama is trying to trip Peters. He has hold of a leg but Peters is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Akiyama persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Peters controls Akiyama momentarily but Akiyama frees himself.
Peters looking for a sweep. Not yet Peters, not yet.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Akiyama chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Akiyama bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Peters's head backwards.
This has been an exciting period of action!
A jab from Akiyama misses.
Akiyama feints and then cracks Peters's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Peters down.
Peters looks winded!
That's one minute gone in the round.
Akiyama misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Peters.
Akiyama connects with an inside leg kick.
Akiyama closes the distance and lands a brutal uppercut that knocks Peters out! We're looking at the replay now - he was out before he hit the floor!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:17 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Akira Akiyama!
