PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dirk Struan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chao Ming (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Dirk Struan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Chao Ming!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Kenichi Hosakawa and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ming cracks Struan with a right hand to the side of the head.


It looks like Dirk Struan has been cut.
Ming looks to throw the jab but Struan is out of range.
Struan dodges the punch combination from Ming.
Struan tries to clinch up.
Ming misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Struan.
Ming fails with the takedown.

Struan shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Struan wants to take a breather but Ming is having none of it.
Struan wants to pass to mount but Ming is defending the position.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Ming is refusing to be controlled, as Struan sits in half guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Dirk Struan just wasn't active enough.

Struan shoots in for a double leg but Ming sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Struan tries to close the distance and clinch but Ming swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Ming misses with a takedown attempt - Struan sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Ming looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Struan moves forwards but Ming connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Ming misses with a hook.

Struan gets the takedown into side control.
Struan is looking to take a break and control but Ming is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Struan wants to stand but Ming has his arm trapped.
Ming wants to get back to his feet.
Struan wants to stand but Ming is controlling his arm.

Ming tries to escape but Struan is in control.
Ming is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Ming explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
Struan fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Ming avoids it really well and circles away.

Struan fails in his attempt to clinch.
Struan has a takedown stuffed.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dirk Struan. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Struan ducks right into an uppercut from Ming.
Struan tries to close the distance and clinch but Ming swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Ming dives in and grabs Struan's left leg, looking for a takedown. Struan pushes down on Ming's head and hops out.
Ming throws a shot from downtown. Struan moves away and avoids it.
Ming lands the left hand.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Ming pushes Struan up against the ropes in a clinch.
Struan tries to pull guard but Ming forces him back to his feet, against the ropes.
Ming is looking to break free of the clinch but Struan has double underhooks.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Ming keeps control of Struan as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Struan wants a takedown.
Struan trying to land knees to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Chao Ming will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Dirk Struan's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Ming throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Ming throws a nice looking combination but Struan bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Ming swats away the attempt to clinch by Struan.
Struan fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Struan takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Ming dives in and grabs Struan's left leg, looking for a takedown. Struan pushes down on Ming's head and hops out.
Ming has a takedown stuffed.
Chao Ming seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Struan takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Struan swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
A left and a right from Struan both land. Nice combination.
Struan tries to close the distance and clinch but Ming swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Struan will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Struan pushing out the jab but it's not landing.

Horrible takedown by Struan or perhaps it was just good defense by Ming which made him look bad.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Ming misses with a takedown attempt - Struan sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Dirk Struan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chao Ming.
Ming is looking to land body kicks.
Ming throws a right hand that Struan ducks under and follows up with a left that Struan also avoids with ease.
Struan looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Struan takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

Struan closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Ming to the mat! Ming manages to get full guard.

Ming manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the ropes.

Struan breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Ming displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Struan.
Struan looking to land some kicks to the body here.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Ming is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ming lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Struan staying out of range there.

Ming rushes Struan and pushes him back against the ropes in a clinch.
Ming can't get the takedown.
Struan tries to break free but Ming pushes him back against the ropes.
Struan has Ming pressed up against the ropes and is working for takedown. Ming manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Struan tries to work over Ming's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Struan working hard to break the clinch.
Ming blocks an uppercut.
Struan misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Ming.

Ming escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Struan walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Ming's jab looks to have found its range, popping Struan under the eye.
Ming might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ming looks for the body kick but Struan saw that one coming.
Struan tries to close the distance and clinch but Ming swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Ming keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.


Dirk Struan's cut is getting worse.
Struan looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Struan goes for a double leg but Ming avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the ropes as Ming continues to drive forward.

Ming pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Ming feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Struan sprawling to the canvas! Struan rolls over backwards and springs off the ropes and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Ming finish him?!


Struan is rocked!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Ming loads up on a big right hand but Struan slips the punch.
Struan gets clipped by a big right hand and goes down spinning to the canvas! Ming gets the back mount and begins to drop bombs on his rocked foe! Struan is too out of it to defend against the strikes and the referee jumps in to save him from the beatdown!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:35 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Chao Ming!
Our winner, Chao Ming, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
