Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hung Underwood (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Welder (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Steve Welder will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Hung Underwood!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Steve Welder!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Arvi Lind and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Underwood has managed to clinch.
Welder tries to throw a body punch but Underwood avoids it by throwing Welder back against the cage.
Underwood lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Welder tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Underwood avoids it.
Underwood lands a good knee to the midsection. Welder won't want to take too many of those.
Welder has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Underwood after a bit of a struggle.
Welder trying to stall but Underwood improves his position.
Underwood stalling.
Underwood is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Welder has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Underwood is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Welder wants a takedown but no success here.
Hung Underwood has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Steve Welder.
Welder has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Underwood after a bit of a struggle.
Underwood could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Welder is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Underwood pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Underwood shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Welder sprawls well. Welder wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Underwood gets slowly back to his feet.

Welder fails with a takedown attempt.
Welder looks winded!
Underwood shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Welder but Welder pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Nice sprawl there from Welder as Underwood shoots in.
Welder takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.

Underwood stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Underwood wants it to stay on the feet.
Underwood shoots in for a double leg but Welder sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Underwood lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Underwood tries a head kick but it misses.
Underwood dives in and grabs Welder's left leg, looking for a takedown. Welder pushes down on Underwood's head and hops out.
Underwood lands a body shot.

Welder bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Welder wants to lay and pray for a moment but Underwood keeps working.
Welder working the ground and pound but Underwood is defending the strikes.

Welder tries for a kimura but Underwood is defending well.
Underwood has one of Welder's arms on lockdown, trying to prevent him from doing any damage.
Underwood wants to control but Welder postures up.
Welder wants to lay and pray for a moment but Underwood keeps working.

Welder thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Underwood is looking for a sweep.
Underwood prevents Welder from moving into mount.

Welder is trying to get an arm triangle but Underwood is defending well.
Underwood sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Underwood is looking to escape.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Welder trying to control from half guard but Underwood is working away.
Welder wants to free his trapped foot but Underwood is holding on for dear life with his legs.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Hung Underwood will probably get the nod.
That's time! Underwood's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Underwood feints and then cracks Welder's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Welder down.
Welder tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Underwood moves into the clinch successfully.
Welder swings wildly with an uppercut but Underwood uses good head movement to avoid it.
Underwood lands a shot to the body.
Welder fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Underwood is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Underwood tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Welder gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Underwood.
Underwood is pressed up against the cage. Welder has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Underwood down to the mat. Underwood avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Welder is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Underwood fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hung Underwood. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Welder circles away from the clinch attempt.
Underwood throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Horrible takedown by Underwood or perhaps it was just good defense by Welder which made him look bad.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
The fight stays on the outside here - Welder looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Welder dives in and grabs Underwood's left leg, looking for a takedown. Underwood pushes down on Welder's head and hops out.
Underwood tries to clinch but Welder moves out of range.
Welder misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
No luck for Welder with that takedown attempt.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Underwood.
Welder stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Welder wants it to stay on the feet.

Underwood moves into the clinch.

Underwood manages to break the clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Welder fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Underwood avoids it really well and circles away.
Welder on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Welder stuffs the takedown attempt from Underwood. Underwood gets slowly back to his feet.
Underwood throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Horrible takedown by Underwood or perhaps it was just good defense by Welder which made him look bad.
Underwood shoots in for a takedown but Welder shows good takedown defense.

Welder forces Underwood back against the cage and clinches.
Underwood prevents the takedown attempt.
Underwood gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Welder.
Welder wants a takedown but no success here.
Welder has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Underwood avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Underwood breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Underwood has closed the distance and engaged Welder in a clinch.
Underwood prevents a takedown attempt there.
Underwood displaying some good clinch control by pressing Welder up against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hung Underwood dominated that second round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!



Underwood fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Welder, pushing him back against the cage.
Underwood jumps guard but Welder turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Welder successfully pulls guard.
Underwood might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Welder has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Underwood can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Welder is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Underwood knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Welder on the ground.
Welder takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Underwood stands and throws Welder's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Underwood decides to stand back up.
Welder tries to clinch but Underwood is having none of it.
Underwood tries to close the distance and clinch but Welder swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Underwood gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Underwood tries for a takedown. No joy.
Underwood is looking for a takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hung Underwood. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Welder decides to pull guard.
Underwood wants to control from the top but Welder keeps moving.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Welder working a defensive guard here.
Underwood is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Hung Underwood has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Welder shoots in but no luck this time.

Underwood fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Welder avoids it really well and circles away.
Underwood lands with a slapping head kick.
Underwood leaves Welder with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Hung Underwood seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Welder is working for takedown but Underwood is calmly controlling the position for now.

Underwood fails to land with a series of punches.
Welder dives in for a single leg takedown but Underwood sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Underwood.
Welder wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Underwood has him pressed against the cage.

Hung Underwood is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Welder lands a couple of decent looking shots.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Hung Underwood.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Underwood, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
