The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Felipe Paraventi and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carlson stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Carlson really is a fat lump.
Do Sul fails in his attempt to clinch.
Carlson displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Do Sul.

Carlson shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Do Sul sprawls well. Do Sul wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Carlson gets slowly back to his feet.

Do Sul remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Do Sul swings around for an armbar but Carlson sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Do Sul's guard.

Do Sul is looking to stand up but Carlson isn't so interested in that idea.

Do Sul will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Do Sul is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Carlson is controlling him.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Scotty Carlson just wasn't active enough.

Horrible takedown by Carlson or perhaps it was just good defense by Do Sul which made him look bad.

Do Sul shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Do Sul was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Do Sul wants to control but Carlson is keeping him busy.
Do Sul tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Do Sul. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Carlson tries to bench press Do Sul off him but Do Sul keeps the position.

Do Sul wants to stand but Carlson has his arm trapped.
Carlson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Do Sul on the ground.
Do Sul creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Carlson sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Carlson manages to work his way to half guard, despite Do Sul's best efforts.

Do Sul is taking a breather. Carlson says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Do Sul in particular looking to stall.

Bagual Do Sul showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Carlson is defended easily by Do Sul.
Carlson pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Do Sul dives in and grabs Carlson's left leg, looking for a takedown. Carlson pushes down on Do Sul's head and hops out.
Carlson closes this distance looking for a takedown but Do Sul circles away.

Do Sul takes the fight into the clinch.
Do Sul has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Carlson avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Carlson tries to land knees in the clinch but Do Sul avoids the damage to the body.
Do Sul tries to pull guard but Carlson won't allow it.
Scotty Carlson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bagual Do Sul.

Carlson keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Do Sul escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Do Sul tries to close the distance and clinch but Carlson swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Carlson doesn't manage to clinch there - Do Sul circles away.
Do Sul tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Carlson defends well and Do Sul ends up having to push Carlson into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Carlson is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Do Sul is trying to pull guard but Carlson turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Carlson is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Carlson is pulling down on Do Sul's head to control his posture.

Do Sul has gone for a leg lock! Carlson slips out almost immediately though and dives into Do Sul's guard.

Do Sul is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Carlson defends well.
Bagual Do Sul has got the better of the ground game so far.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Do Sul looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Carlson has picked Do Sul up and slammed him! Do Sul can't keep hold of the triangle and Carlson manages to pass to side control!

And that's the end of the fight!

I think Do Sul has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
