PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Rick Ross (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stan Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Rick Ross!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Stan Jones!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Chris Saunders and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ross is trying hard to land a takedown here. Jones sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Ross looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Jones!
Jones wants to get back to his feet but Ross drags him back down.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ross tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Ross has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
You can see the frustration on Jones's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Ross taking a break here but Jones is having none of it and regains half guard.
Jones keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ross sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Jones defending well though.
Ross has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Ross throws a strike but Jones avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Ross trying to control the position from guard on top but Jones is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Ross is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jones looking for a sweep. Not yet Jones, not yet.
Jones tries to strike from the bottom.
Ross throwing strikes from guard but Jones blocks nicely.
Ross controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Ross pushes down on Jones's leg and manages to get into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Ross sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Jones defending well though.
Still in half guard, Ross seems content to control.

Ross is looking for a kimura here.
Ross not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Jones has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Ross is working away from the top position though.
Jones is looking to escape.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ross is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Ross is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Ross is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
Ross throwing strikes from guard but Jones blocks nicely.
Ross engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Ross stops Jones from standing up.

Ross is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Jones being controlled here, momentarily.
Ross has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Jones avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Ross controls from within his opponent's guard.
Ross forces his way into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rick Ross dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Ross bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Jones misses with a strike from the bottom.
Ross tries to score with some ground and pound. Jones controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Ross tries for a kimura but Jones is defending well.
Jones defending against the ground and pound.

Ross has hold of Jones's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Jones seems comfortable defending it but Ross has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Jones is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Jones is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Ross couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:41 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Rick Ross!
