Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mark Marx!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Marco Blurström and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Marx shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Rutledge sprawls well. Rutledge wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Marx gets slowly back to his feet.
Marx looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

and Rutledge counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Rutledge decides to pull guard.

Rutledge has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Marx off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Rutledge is looking to clinch but Marx is avoiding it.
Marx misses with a takedown attempt - Rutledge sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Rutledge fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Marx sprawls well initially but Rutledge persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Rhett Rutledge.
Rutledge tries to close the distance and clinch but Marx swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Marx is looking for a triangle here but Rutledge uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Marx with a lazy takedown attempt

and Rutledge holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Rutledge jumps into guard, dragging Marx to the mat.
Rutledge is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Marx is controlling him.

Marx changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Rutledge tries to avoid it but Marx manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Rutledge to the ground. Rutledge escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Rutledge changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Marx looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Marx is trying to get back to his feet but Rutledge has full control of the position and if anything, Marx has just worked his way into a worse spot.

Well, if Rutledge is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Marx has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Rutledge escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Rutledge!
