PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rashad Banks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tim Nim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tim Nim told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nim throws the kick towards the body but Banks avoids it.
Banks blocks a head kick by Nim.

Banks fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Nim sprawls well initially but Banks persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Banks working over Nim with some ground and pound. Nim looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Banks takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Banks is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Banks is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Banks has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Rashad Banks has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Banks shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Nim is trying to defend but Banks finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Banks passes to side control.

Nim takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Banks is working Nim over with some ground and pound from side control.
Banks remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Nim tries to buck Banks off but Banks is having none of it.
The referee asks Banks politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Banks prefers to stall for the moment though.

Banks looks up at the clock and then as Nim takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Banks smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

The referee warns Nim that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Banks lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
