Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chael Sonnen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ari Sotaheimo!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Eliza Hachem and Damien Edna.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sonnen shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Sonnen showed some decent athleticism there.
Sonnen takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Sonnen is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Sonnen is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Sotaheimo is looking to improve his position.
Sotaheimo wants to get back to his feet.
Sonnen thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sotaheimo is refusing to be controlled, as Sonnen sits in half guard.
Sotaheimo avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Sonnen.
Sonnen working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Sotaheimo is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Sonnen scores with a couple of nice shots.
Sotaheimo really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sonnen. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Sotaheimo wants to improve his position but Sonnen is controlling well.
Sonnen passes to full mount!
Sotaheimo is in all sorts of trouble here.

Sonnen landing strikes from the mount and Sotaheimo is in trouble!
Sonnen has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Sotaheimo is in a horrible position here. Sonnen smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Sotaheimo tries to reverse the position but Sonnen maintains control.
Sonnen postures up and connects with a big shot that has rocked Sotaheimo badly. He's trying desperately to grab hold of Sonnen around the waist but Sonnen pushes him off and unloads with more strikes, forcing the referee to jump in and save him! Sonnen is the winner by TKO! Sonnen jumps onto the cage and shouts into the camera. "We did it momma!"
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:45 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Chael Sonnen!
In his post fight interview, Chael Sonnen started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
