PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Paul Mackintosh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and JG Wentworth (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wentworth comes into a darkened arena with his song building. CALL J.G. WENTWORTH kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Paul Mackintosh!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, JG Wentworth!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, James Atkins and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mackintosh misses with a jab to the body
and Wentworth counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Mackintosh throws a nice inside leg kick.
Wentworth throws a big shot that misses.
Jab, jab by Mackintosh - just one landing.
Mackintosh lands with an overhand left.
Wentworth swats away the attempt to clinch by Mackintosh.
Mackintosh attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Mackintosh slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Mackintosh stalks Wentworth and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Wentworth's face. Wentworth staggers backwards, shaken.
Mackintosh moves to clinch but Wentworth breaks away
and Wentworth makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Mackintosh tries to clinch but Wentworth moves out of range.

Mackintosh clinches up against the cage.

Wentworth is trying to trip Mackintosh. He has hold of a leg but Mackintosh is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Wentworth persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Wentworth must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Mackintosh pulls Wentworth in close to prevent any damage.
Wentworth has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Mackintosh is proving hard to escape from.

Mackintosh has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Wentworth can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Wentworth tries to stand but Mackintosh is controlling from the bottom.
Mackintosh controls Wentworth momentarily but Wentworth frees himself.
Mackintosh wants to sweep but no luck.
Mackintosh is trying to keep Wentworth in close.
Mackintosh wants to get back to his feet but Wentworth is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Wentworth would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Mackintosh looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
A swing and a miss from Wentworth.
Mackintosh shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Mackintosh misses with a head kick.
Wentworth lands a nice hook to Mackintosh's body. Mackintosh takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Nice shot lands for Wentworth.
Mackintosh throws a nice looking combination but Wentworth bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Mackintosh tries to keep at a distance but Wentworth has taken the fight into the clinch.
Mackintosh is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Wentworth pulls Mackintosh into guard.
Wentworth is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Mackintosh is controlling him.
Wentworth looking for a sweep. Not yet Wentworth, not yet.
Mackintosh pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Wentworth is keeping the position for now.
Mackintosh pushes down on Wentworth's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Wentworth is refusing to be controlled, as Mackintosh sits in half guard.
Wentworth trying to control from the bottom.
Mackintosh perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Wentworth tries to get to full guard but Mackintosh has control of the leg.
Mackintosh is keen to just control but Wentworth is a slippery customer.

Mackintosh is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Wentworth makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Mackintosh shoots and misses
and Wentworth counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Paul Mackintosh. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Mackintosh has managed to clinch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Wentworth has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Mackintosh uses from the top position.
Wentworth wants to sweep but no luck.

Mackintosh drops back looking for a leg! Wentworth is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Wentworth manages to kick Mackintosh off! Mackintosh jumps back into Wentworth's guard.
Wentworth looking to hit a scissor sweep but Mackintosh is one step ahead there.
Mackintosh stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Wentworth swivels though and keeps the full guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Mackintosh drops back looking for a leg! Wentworth is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Wentworth manages to kick Mackintosh off! Mackintosh jumps back into Wentworth's guard.
Wentworth wants to stand and escape but Mackintosh is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Paul Mackintosh will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Wentworth lands a slapping body shot.
Wentworth feints a jab promting Mackintosh to slip. Wentworth then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Mackintosh slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Mackintosh ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Wentworth moves away.
Paul Mackintosh is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Mackintosh is looking to clinch.
Mackintosh tried to score with a low kick but Wentworth checks it.
Wentworth misses with a hook
and Mackintosh counters with a low kick, right behind Wentworth 's knee.
Paul Mackintosh seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mackintosh fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Wentworth shoots in and gets a takedown into Mackintosh's guard.

Wentworth gets to his feet. Mackintosh looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Mackintosh tries to close the distance and clinch but Wentworth swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Mackintosh pushes Wentworth up against the cage in a clinch.

Wentworth is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Mackintosh can't fight it off and eventually Wentworth manages to take the fight to the floor. Mackintosh looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Mackintosh is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Wentworth has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Mackintosh is proving hard to escape from.
Wentworth is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
JG Wentworth has got the better of the ground game so far.

Mackintosh throws a right and a left that both miss.
Left hook, right uppercut from Mackintosh.
A jab from Mackintosh finds it's way through Wentworth's defenses.
Mackintosh fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Mackintosh throws a leg kick which misses Wentworth's front leg but catches the back leg as Wentworth tries to avoid it.

Wentworth lands a glancing blow to the side of Mackintosh's head.
Mackintosh tries to score with a low kick but Wentworth moves his leg out of the way.
Mackintosh tries to clinch up but Wentworth circles away and keeps his distance.

and Wentworth counters with a left to the body.
Wentworth just misses with a punch to the body.
Paul Mackintosh is winning the standup battle so far.
Mackintosh feints and then cracks Wentworth's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Wentworth down.
Mackintosh tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Wentworth manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Nice takedown defense from Wentworth. No joy for Mackintosh on that attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Paul Mackintosh. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Mackintosh throws a front kick aimed at Wentworth's knee but Wentworth avoids it well.

Mackintosh tries to clinch up but Wentworth circles away and keeps his distance.

Wentworth turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Wentworth manages to end up in side control.
Mackintosh is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Mackintosh is trying to control Wentworth's posture but Wentworth avoids it.

Wentworth decides to stand back up.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Wentworth shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Mackintosh's guard.

Wentworth stands and steps away. Mackintosh gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Mackintosh tries to close the distance and clinch but Wentworth swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
A slow jab from Wentworth misses its intended target.
Mackintosh is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Wentworth feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Mackintoshs jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

JG Wentworth showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. And we move into the final round!


Mackintosh lands a nice leg kick that just misses Wentworth's sensitive parts.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Mackintosh wants to take the fight to the mat but Wentworth manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Wentworth wants the takedown. Mackintosh is fighting it off but Wentworth persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Mackintosh's guard against the cage.
Wentworth wants to stand and escape but instead Mackintosh has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Mackintosh wants to control from the top but Wentworth keeps moving.
Mackintosh pushes down on Wentworth's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Mackintosh is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Mackintosh looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Wentworth is trying to stand up here but Mackintosh is controlling him well.

Wentworth pushes Mackintosh off looking to stand but Mackintosh dives back in and keeps control.

Wentworth makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Wentworth has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Mackintosh.
Mackintosh is looking to clinch but Wentworth is avoiding it.
Mackintosh misses with a double jab.
Mackintosh misses with a few strikes there.

Wentworth clinches with his opponent.

Wentworth has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Mackintosh clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
You can see the frustration on Mackintosh's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Wentworth is landing with strikes from the back.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Wentworth lands with a hammerfist to the side of Mackintosh's head.
Wentworth lands an elbow to the side of the head.
Wentworth really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mackintosh. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Wentworth connects with a big shot to the side of Mackintosh's head.
Mackintosh wants to escape the position.
What can Mackintosh do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!
Mackintosh is in bad spot here.
Wentworth trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Watch the back of the head! Comes the shout from the referee towards Wentworth.
Wentworth is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Wentworth is not going to allow Mackintosh to sit and survive in this position.

Mackintosh is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
Will Wentworth go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?
Mackintosh tries to roll but Wentworth sticks to his back.
Wentworth tries to get the hooks in deep but Mackintosh pushed the leg off.
Wentworth throwing strikes from the back - he gets a warning from the referee for striking the back of the head but all these shots are hurting Mackintosh!
Mackintosh wants to control his opponent's hands but Wentworth gets his hands free.

Wentworth doesn't have the hooks in and Mackintosh manages to turn into his guard.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. JG Wentworth wasn't active enough on the ground.
Mackintosh lands a leg kick that knocks Wentworth off balance momentarily.
Wentworth has worked on his takedown defense in the runup to this fight and it is paying off so far.
Wentworth has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Mackintosh finds it's way round the side to connect with Wentworth's head.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Wentworth rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Mackintosh moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

And that's the end of the fight!
JG Wentworth comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Wentworth has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
