Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jean-Louis Andre!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jake Mendes!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Nard Betker and Wagner Zegers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendes avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Mendes tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Andre swivels and escapes.

Andre pushes Mendes up against the cage in a clinch.
Andre swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Andre using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Mendes has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Andre misses with a short punch on the inside.
Mendes takes an elbow to the temple.


It looks like Jake Mendes has been cut.
Andre misses with the head strike.
Andre misses with a punch to the body.
Mendes goes for a takedown attempt but Andre pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Mendes shoots in but Andre avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Jean-Louis Andre has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jake Mendes.

and Andre counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Andre misses with a hook. Mendes ducked under it nicely.
Andre throws a combination. Mendes tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Andre throws a wild body kick that Mendes sees coming a mile off.
Andre throws a series of strikes that have Mendes backpedaling.

and Mendes counters with a nice double leg into guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Andre working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mendes doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Mendes manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Andre looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Mendes passes into side control.

Mendes prevents Andre from improving his position.
Andre is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Mendes's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Mendes's back!
Mendes breaks Andre's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Andre is looking for a triangle but Mendes pushes his legs off easily.

Mendes thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Andre escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mendes gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Andre working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mendes doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Mendes manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Andre is working an open guard so Mendes takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Andre pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

and Mendes decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Andre's guard.

Mendes is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Andre is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Andre has escaped and now he's on top!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Mendes is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Andre is aware though and is defending well.

Mendes is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Andre asserts his dominance and retains side control.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Mendes gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Mendes is not content to let Andre control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jean-Louis Andre will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Jake Mendes's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Mendes takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
A looping hook to the body misses from Andre. Mendes does a little dance to reset his feet.
Mendes shoots in looking for a takedown but Andre manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Mendes's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Mendes has Andre pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Andre manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Mendes is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Andre gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Andre fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Mendes looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

and Mendes holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Andre putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Mendes in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.
Andre throws a punch but it's blocked by Mendes.

Andre lands with a left to the head.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Mendes tries for a takedown but Andre manages to get underhooks.

Mendes has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Andre clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Mendes is trying to stick to Andre's back but Andre is turning into Mendes. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Mendes's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Andre.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Andre accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Andre wants to control from the top but Mendes keeps moving.

Mendes is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Andre is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Mendes defends it well.

and Andre counters with a nice leg kick.

Mendes tries to move into range but Andre moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Andre looks to score with a jab to the body but Mendes is just out of range.

Andre bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Andre, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
