The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Quan throws a front kick aimed at Sonnen's knee but Sonnen avoids it well.
Quan throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Sonnen's waist but Sonnen gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Quan off to one side.
Quan throws the kick towards the body but Sonnen avoids it.
Quan looks for the body kick but Sonnen saw that one coming.
Quan doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Sonnen counters with a nice double leg into side control. Quan won't be happy with that.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The strikes coming from Sonnen are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
