Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 35 - 20 - 2, fighting out of Tokyo, Otis Gein!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kengo Watanabe!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Shigeki Sano and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Watanabe checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Gein scores with a jab.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Watanabe is defended easily by Gein.
Watanabe looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Watanabe showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Gein.
Watanabe avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Watanabe keeps the fight on the outside.

Gein clinches.
Gein lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Gein lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Watanabe backwards.
Gein lands with a left to the head.
Watanabe changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Gein fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Otis Gein has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kengo Watanabe.
Watanabe ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Gein moves away.

Watanabe avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Watanabe fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Gein to the ground. Watanabe is now in Gein's guard.

Watanabe avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Gein looking to hit a scissor sweep but Watanabe is one step ahead there.
Watanabe told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.
Gein is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Watanabe is controlling him.
Watanabe really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gein. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Watanabe not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Gein is on top in guard.

Gein keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Watanabe's head.
Gein is in close to Watanabe's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Gein drops back, looking for a kneebar! Watanabe looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Watanabe looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Watanabe!

Watanabe works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Gein is trying to improve his position.
Watanabe in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Watanabe grinds an elbow into Gein's temple.
Gein is not content to let Watanabe control the position.
Gein tries to escape but Watanabe is in control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Watanabe creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Gein sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Gein is trying to get back to half guard.
Gein is working hard here to advance position.
Gein is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Watanabe asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Gein tries to bench press Watanabe off him but Watanabe keeps the position.
Gein sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Watanabe connects with a nice short shot to Gein's temple.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Gein is trying to get back to full guard.
Gein avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Watanabe.
Watanabe thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Gein's head.
Gein gets back to full guard.
Watanabe must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Gein utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Watanabe trying to control but Gein is working from the bottom.
Watanabe won't allow Gein to sweep him here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Watanabe controls from within his opponent's guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Watanabe wants to control from the top but Gein keeps moving.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Kengo Watanabe was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Gein has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Watanabe tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Gein defends well and Watanabe ends up having to push Gein into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Gein lands a body shot in the clinch.
Watanabe scores with a shoulder strike.
Gein scores with a shot to the side of Watanabe's head.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Gein escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Watanabe fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Watanabe keeps the fight on the outside.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Otis Gein will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Watanabe is looking to clinch but Gein is avoiding it.
Watanabe dives in for a single leg takedown but Gein sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Watanabe tries to score a body lock takedown but Gein shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Gein lands with a left to the head.
Gein pushes Watanabe back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Gein lands a right hand that snaps the head of Watanabe backwards.
Watanabe drops down looking for an ankle pick but Gein pulls his leg out and moves away.
Otis Gein has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kengo Watanabe.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Watanabe is breathing heavily.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Gein creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Gein lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Gein lands with a short shot to the head.

Gein lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Watanabe.

Watanabe is still on wobbly legs! Can Gein finish him?

Gein breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Watanabe gets tagged by a hook that puts him to sleep! Gein points and yells something to his unconcious foe before strutting off. Watanabe wakes up just in time to hear Gein thank his coaches in the post fight interview.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:43 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Otis Gein!
