Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Tabarik Maisumov!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Marcus Kuivanen!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Matti Vanhoillinen and Marco Blurström.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kuivanen throws a sloppy head kick and Maisumov moves out of range easily.
Kuivanen dives in and grabs Maisumov's left leg, looking for a takedown. Maisumov pushes down on Kuivanen's head and hops out.
Kuivanen tries for a takedown but Maisumov circles away easily
and Maisumov counters with a shoot takedown. Kuivanen fights it but they end up in guard.
Kuivanen is working an open guard so Maisumov takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Maisumov displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Kuivanen.
Tabarik Maisumov has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Marcus Kuivanen.
Kuivanen misses with a takedown attempt
and Maisumov counters with a nice double leg into side control. Kuivanen won't be happy with that.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The referee asks Maisumov politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Maisumov prefers to stall for the moment though.
Maisumov in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Kuivanen is tapping! That's the end of the fight!
